VA DCJS LAW ENFORCEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED TO APPLY

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting patrols (vehicle and foot), responding to alarm calls, enforcing all federal, state, and local laws, enforcing traffic rules and regulations, making arrests, testifying in court, providing security during special events and conducting dignitary protection. In addition, officers will serve as members of a community policing team that employs problem-solving strategies for addressing crime and safety problems; performing patrol duties including but not limited to responding to calls for service or crimes, investigating violations of law or University rules, preparing written reports, enforcing parking and traffic rules, engaging in crowd and traffic control, patrolling and inspecting buildings and facilities for safety or law enforcement concerns, and coordinating with higher authority on special traffic, law enforcement or safety concerns; entering reports into a computer; performing extensive computer work; performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  Virginia DCJS Law Enforcement Certification
• Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check: No felony or domestic violence convictions.
• Excellent driving record
• MUST BE POLICE CERTIFIED

Preferred Qualifications:

• 
  University Policing Experience a plus
• Some college credit hours
• Knowledge of Title IX
• Knowledge of The Clery Act
• Crisis Intervention Training (CIT)

The University is the result of a merger among four historic institutions: Richmond Theological Seminary, Wayland Seminary, Hartshorn Memorial, and Storer College. Richmond Theological Seminary held its first classes at Lumpkin’s Jail, a former holding cell for runaway slaves. The Wayland Seminary was founded in 1865 by the American Baptist Home Mission Society in Washington, DC. Two years later Storer College was founded in West Virginia, and Hartshorn Memorial College opened its doors in 1883 as the first college for African American women in the country. After operating independently for three decades, these notable seminaries joined forces to form Virginia Union University in 1899. Hartshorn Memorial and Storer Colleges would eventually join this Union in 1932 and 1964, respectively.
