Prince William County’s Department of Development Services is offering creative, challenging and rewarding work as a Development Project Manager. We are looking for motivated professionals who will take the lead and solve problems.
The Development Project Manager position offers a tremendous opportunity for you to use your expertise in construction, code enforcement and project management to help the business community throughout the development approval process. The range of commercial projects includes small business tenant spaces (e.g., retail; business, restaurants), medical facilities, data centers, hotels, apartments and storage/warehouse. Strong communication and people skills combined with superior problem-solving skills is essential for success.
The Development Project Manager is responsible for taking an active role in the Building Development Project Management (DPM) Team. The Team is responsible for implementing the County’s Commercial Project Management Program and the Small Business Project Management Program. The Team’s on-going success has been achieved through its ability to effectively facilitate, coordinate and collaborate with customers and County staff throughout the process up to the issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy.

What will you do in this role?
Perform project management duties for assigned projects- Contribute to the Small Business Project Management Program
- Facilitate a Multi-Disciplinary Team, Early Assistance and Issue Resolution Meetings
- Serve as the Project Management Branch Representative on Process Action Teams
- Maintain accurate project records
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 6 years of related experience.
Preferences
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Demonstrated experience managing processes, projects and process improvement teams
- Thorough knowledge of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC)
- Demonstrated ability to apply building code exemptions and exceptions to projects
- Experience as a Project Manager, Plans Reviewer, Construction/Code Enforcement Inspector
Schedule Requirements
This position works a standard Monday-Friday schedule, working 37.5 hours per week.
Special Requirements
Must become certified by the State of Virginia as a Technical Assistant to the Building Official within 18 months of employment, which includes Virginia Certified Commercial Plans Reviewer.
