BRIDGE OPERATOR Job at U.S. Facilities
U.S. Facilities, Inc., a consolidated building maintenance services company, is seeking a Bridge Operator in the Norfolk, VA, area.
The Bridge Operator uses switches and controls to operate movable bridges on navigable waters in accordance with established procedures and safety precautions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Consistently and safely operates movable spans with a minimum delay to navigation and highway traffic.
- Monitors panel board during bridge opening and closing.
- Signals vessels manually in event of electrical or mechanical failure.
- Regularly checks and monitors navigation and traffic control devices to ensure serviceability and proper operation. Inspections include working parts such as locks, controls, casters, and wedges.
- Replaces bulbs and fuses required for bridge equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness of navigation lights both inside and outside.
- Keeps deck plates for hand operation clear and free at all times.
- Flags highway traffic, sometimes for extended time periods.
- Sweeps and mops hallways, stairs, and office space. Occasionally cleans windows.
- Maintains written logs and completes reports.
- Reports equipment damage, malfunction, or outage to immediate supervisor.
- Responds to highway accidents in accordance with emergency procedures.
- Notifies management concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
May be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth above to address business needs and changing business practices.

Education/Training
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent, computer training with Microsoft office background
Licenses, Certifications, Requirements
- CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- The successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination, and medical history check.
- Possession of a valid driver's license is a requirement for this job.
Working Conditions
- Requires light physical work; light lifting, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 25 pounds. Prolonged sitting.
