Position Title: Heavenly Sunshine Assistant Preschool Teacher

Classification: Part Time, 13.5-22.5 hours per week

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am to 12:30pm with the potential to add hours.

ASSISTANT PRESCHOOL TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION

Heavenly Sunshine Preschool is a ministry of Faith Lutheran Church. The Preschool is open to children of all spiritual backgrounds and provides an appropriate learning experience for children between 33 months of age and kindergarten entrance. The goal of the Preschool is to provide experiences that stimulate the child’s interest in God’s world – to provide an environment where each child can develop his or her physical, emotional, mental, academic and social capabilities to his or her full potential, with an emphasis on cognitive development and communication skills.

Assistant Teachers must have a love for Jesus and children. You must be reliable, caring, patient, and compassionate to work with children, ages 2 years, 9 months – 5 years old. It is required that you have the ability to bend, lift and partake in regular movement. You should be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. You must be able to follow directions and work independently. You will be responsible for assisting in implementing curriculum in a safe, healthy and nurturing classroom environment that supports each child's social, emotional and intellectual growth and development. You are to encourage and assist in positive social interactions, ensure safety and well-being of children at all times and enhance learning through the creative use of materials. You are to be available between 8:00am and 12:30pm, in accordance to the schedule that the director provides.

Responsibilities:

• General cleaning duties
• Responsible for the safety of all children
• Model instructional excellence through classroom best practices
• Assist with planning and implementing activities that promote the social, physical, and intellectual growth of all children
• Maintain classroom records, cleanliness, and order to align with state regulations and standards
• Be actively engaged with the children at all times
• Serve as a role model through appearance and actions
• Provide a loving and nurturing environment for all children
• Assist students in bathrooms
• Set-up snack and lunch
• Maintain professional personal appearance adhering to the guidelines offered in the staff handbook
• Attend all required staff meetings, workshops and/or school functions as determined by the Director
• Establish a positive Christian learning environment with regard to the needs of each child
• Provide the children with verbal praise and acceptance while providing clear and consistent expectations for the children's behavior
• Observe all rules and regulations of Faith Lutheran Church and the local, state or national regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety and care of children
• Assist in other capacities, as determined by the Director
• Follow the schedule, as determined by the Director
• Show responsibility for food preparation and serving, general maintenance of building and grounds, and outdoor play periods
• Notify the Director of shortages in snack, curriculum or necessity items before the stock is totally depleted
• Complete appropriate number of in-service training hours each year (the exact requirement will be communicated by the Director)
• Have a thorough knowledge of all center policies and procedures and follows them carefully

Requirements:

• Able to see, think, hear, and move quickly enough to supervise children safely
• Able to provide an appropriate speech model while interacting with both parents and children.
• Holds a certificate for First Aid Training/CPR training OR willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Must adhere to the center’s Staff Handbook Policy at all times
• Previous teaching or assistant teaching position with a quality preschool or childcare center
• Is a Christian role model for the children, parents and other Staff
• Able to function quickly and precisely in a crisis situation
• Able to lift and carry children, minimum of 40 pounds
• Able to provide an appropriate speech model while interacting with both parents and children.
• Able to delegate responsibility

Qualifications:
Meets Assistant teacher qualification 9503.0033 under MN DHS rule 3

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 per hour
