What is Scheduled Train Optimization?
The Scheduled Train Optimization department provides high importance data and analysis related to execution of system level problems and exercises in the network. This department works in stride with our Operations and Support groups to ensure efficient and effective movement of all scheduled freight across the network.
Members of this team will:
  • Optimize service and customer experience in each of NS’ business markets.
  • Focus on terminals, equipment, and assets to build a foundation that permits customers to receive consistent and valuable service.
  • Pursue new technologies, practices, and approaches that continually improve operational performance and customer service.

The department is seeking an Assistant Manager Clearance to help transform operational aspects of the business.
Primary Purpose:
Ensures safe and efficient movement of excessive dimensional shipments.
Principal Duties:
  • Responsible for authorizing excessive dimensional shipments and determining if a special train should be ordered.
  • Extreme attention to detail while creating safe routing for excessive dimensional shipments.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the geographic layout of the railroad.
  • Establishes close working relationships with Dispatch, Transportation, LSS, Marketing, Engineering, the NOC and other rail carriers.
  • Expedites and distributes empty equipment assigned to oversized shipment service.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of a single clearance program to be used on a system wide basis.
  • Furnishes current clearance and equipment data from various industrial publications, including the Office Railway Equipment Register.
  • Expedites the movement of dimensional shipments to meet customer requirements.

Job Related Experience:
Minimum Level: 1-2 years
Preferred Level: 3-5 years

Education:
Preferred Level: Bachelor's Degree (Any)
