In your role as Assistant General Counsel – Patents, you’ll help us deliver better care for billions of people around the world.
The role of Assistant General Counsel – Patents requires in-depth knowledge of the law and relevant legal concepts, the ability to analyze legal issues and develop practical solutions to problems, and an ability to gain the trust and confidence of business partners and other legal team members such that the advice and recommendations provided are readily accepted and effectively implemented.
The Assistant General Counsel will provide strategic direction on Kimberly-Clark’s patent portfolio and develop Kimberly-Clark’s intellectual property rights globally, as well as provide general legal support on related matters arising in daily operations. The Assistant General Counsel will support Kimberly-Clark’s businesses, including our global B2B Kimberly-Clark Professional (KCP) business, and work with the global and regional innovation teams in the development of appropriate patent protection for all innovation projects to accomplish business and strategic initiatives and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
In this role, you will join the Legal Department and report to the Vice President – Global Head of Intellectual Property.
Location: This job operates out of Roswell, Georgia.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and personally handle all aspects of innovation management for the global KCP business, including crafting and implementing innovation strategies reflecting business objectives, patent opportunities, critical risk analysis and recommended solutions. Partner with other Patent Team attorneys to support other businesses, such as our global tissue business.
- Manage the global patent portfolio for assigned businesses and conduct patent prosecution, including the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent applications.
- Provide freedom to operate, ownership, infringement, and validity opinions in support of commercialization efforts, as well as for patent litigation and licensing opportunities.
- Prepare and negotiate agreements to support business transactions relating to the development and/or utilization of intellectual assets.
- Partner with KCP and any other assigned businesses by inspiring confidence and trust, making practical recommendations to business partners that strike the appropriate risk/reward balance, and being accountable for delivering business results.
- Provide training and processes designed to enhance the innovation management skills of KCP and other assigned businesses, as well as drive and promote a comprehensive and effective compliance and ethics culture.
- Assist in setting the Legal Department’s strategy, identifying breakthrough initiatives, and driving change to improve the way we work and the value we add to the business.

- Interface with local and global business partners within Kimberly-Clark and provide balanced advice for achieving objectives in conformity with applicable laws and regulations, assessing risk and being accountable for business results.

To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:
- A Juris Doctor degree or its non-U.S. equivalent, and a license to practice in at least one state.
- USPTO Registration.
- Degree in chemistry or chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or significant experience with same.
- 6+ years’ experience practicing law in a law firm or corporate department with a patent focus, which includes direct experience with patent drafting, prosecution, and counseling.
- The ability to deal with complex legal and business issues on all subjects impacting the operation of the business.
