Assistant Cheerleading Coach High School

Girard College is looking for candidates for the position of Assistant Competitive Cheerleading Coach for High School. The coach is responsible for assisting in the teaching and training the sport of Competitive Cheerleading to Girard College male and female high school students. He or she must create and/or support a high energy and positive team culture that reflects the mission statement school. The applicant must have knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of cheerleading.


Job Goal:

Within the framework of the entire athletic program, the Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in leading the ongoing development and improvement of his or her sport through coordinating, planning, evaluation, and implementation of programs. All coaches have the responsibility of overseeing the program in the best interest of Girard College by adhering to the policies and regulation of the Penn-Jersey Athletic Association (P.J.A.A), the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (P.A.I.S.A.A.), as well as the practices and procedures of the school administration.


Required Tasks:

  • Assisting the head coach in organizing practice plans.
  • Implementing the practice plans designed by the head coach.
  • Running skill-building drills for practice to emphasize the fundamentals of cheerleading.
  • Assisting with monitoring the student-athlete’s academic progress and performance.
  • Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes for admission into the high school.
  • Be able to model, teach and enforce sportsmanship.
  • Maintain appropriate conduct toward students, officials, and spectators.
  • Be able to effectively communicate team rules to players and families.
  • Exhibits non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Be able to work in an educational environment and maintain a relationship with school administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
  • Keep athletes safe and healthy.
  • Follow the care plan of the Athletic Trainer for injured student-athletes.
  • He/she must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time, and work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • Be able to lift at least fifty pounds.

Required Duties:

  • Cleaning, storage, and care of team equipment.
  • Monitoring the team well-being during practice and games.
  • Distributing equipment, supplies and uniforms to the players before the season. And collect all uniforms and equipment at the end of the season.
  • Transporting the team to games and competitions.
  • Attending staff meetings when called by the Athletic Director.
  • Seasonal, stipend pay with no benefits.
Qualifications

An associate degree is required, but bachelor’s degree is preferred, along with a minimum of three years of coaching experience on the high school, collegiate, or professional level. The candidate must have completed the PIAA coaching education requirements at the time of hire. The candidate must possess outstanding people skills and a willingness to work with student-athletes, families, administration, and faculty and staff. The candidate must demonstrate interest in and an aptitude for performing all tasks listed.
