JOB DETAILS:

The Aquatics Director is responsible for the development, organization and implementation of high quality, member-focused aquatics programs, as well as the day-to-day management of the pool and lifeguarding staff. Member engagement and staff development are key focus areas for this position with an emphasis on pool and aquatic facility management. Effective candidates will have backgrounds in building relationships, successful staff supervision, problem solving skills, program management and the ability to work with diverse populations. Overall, the position will ensure quality swim instruction, aquatic programs, member satisfaction, and efficiently market their department with goals to increase program participation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
• Assume key team leader responsibilities including budget development and meeting goals of the organization.
• Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
• Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.
• Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
• Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
• Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
• Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
• Creates and schedules swim classes and water fitness classes.
• Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
• Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
• Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
• Models’ relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
• Participates in Program Management Team meetings.
• Compiles program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
• Other duties as assigned
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred
• Certified to instruct others in CPR, AED/O2, First Aid, lifeguarding, learn-to-swim, and water exercise
• Proven ability to stimulate program growth through strong community relations and innovative programming with emphasis on creating positive experiences for all members
• Computer proficiency (including Microsoft Word and Excel)
• Must display high degree of professionalism and customer service and exemplify YMCA values
  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, stoop and lift.
