Basic Function

The AMS Instrumentation Specialist has the primary responsibility to ensure day-to-day operability/corporate compliance of the Bayport Complex Asset Management Systems (AMS) for instrumentation and control valve predictive monitoring. The role is part of the reliability group supporting plant operation and reliability improvement efforts at the Bayport Complex. Working in a team environment, it carries responsibility for implementing AMS best practices, using AMS to improve preventive maintenance tasks, and supporting maintenance and turnaround activities. The position interacts with other technical groups, corporate technical networks, and vendors/suppliers as needed to resolve problems and improve plant reliability and performance. Roles & Responsibilities

  • Act as technical resource for instrument technicians and operations on complex jobs or repairs regarding AMS
  • Provide instrumentation troubleshooting and problem-solving support to operations, maintenance and reliability organizations
  • Oversee implementation of AMS scope of expense, capital, and general improvement projects across the complex
  • Support AMS site initiatives and interface with instrument specialists on a daily basis
  • Develop KPIs for continuous improvement and tracking of benefits of AMS
  • Perform AMS device manager version and software upgrades, snap-ons, and confirm database operations with assistance from vendor as required
  • Create, update and review AMS work process documents
  • Establish maintenance & engineering users with appropriate level of AMS access
  • Participate on project teams responsible for AMS additions or modifications
  • Work with reliability engineers to upgrade instrumentation to smart devices
  • Develop and executes plans required for pre-turnaround control valve signature measurement and analysis
  • Support turnarounds or other outages as necessary
  • Identify instrumentation failures before they impact operations
  • Use AMS information and diagnostics as PdM to initiate proactive repairs, and work with reliability engineers to optimize PM frequencies and content
  • Provide hands on training and guidance for technicians in using AMS system to meet global instrument calibration standard
  • Works with vendors and control systems engineers to install required network hardware for integrated system
  • Support other sites through participation in Houston area AMS technical exchange
  • Participate in unit root cause failure analysis as needed
  • Support operational excellence self-assessments and process safety audits.

Min. Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting experience in a related industry
  • Experience with selection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation technologies across all major types of measurement (flow, level, pressure, and temperature)
  • Proficiency with Emerson's Asset Management System and its related subsystems:
    • ValveLink
    • Calibration Manager
    • Wireless Snap-On
    • QuickCheck
    • AlertTrack
    • Meter Verification
  • Knowledge of various manufacturer DTMs:
    • Metso Fieldcare
    • Flowserve ValveSight
    • Rosemount Radar Master
    • Vega DTM Collection
  • Strong knowledge of HART multiplexer infrastructures
  • Proficiency with SAP
  • Basic IT networking knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of computer systems and hardware
