The job site for this position will vary. The YMCA provides afterschool childcare in Nederland, Port Arthur, Port Neches-Groves, and Little Cypress-Mauriceville School Districts at specific schools. The position is for 15-20 hours per week (see work schedule below).
General Functions: To provide quality childcare in after-school sites by teaching values, ensuring safety and participating in play and educational activities with the children, in accordance with state requirements and YMCA policy.
Physical Requirements: This position requires the following physical requirements: Walking, sitting, hearing, kneeling, standing, vision, and lifting (up to 50lbs).

. Education and/or Experience- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with demonstrated interest in the welfare of children; prior childcare or babysitting experience is preferred.
. Qualifications- Must be at least 18 years of age. Must obtain and keep current CPR and First Aid certifications on file. 30 hours of training in child care must be completed annually. Responsibilities:
All childcare providers are expected to perform the following activities. Duties specific to the program area follow and other duties may be assigned as needed.
A) Promotes and incorporates the YMCA four core values and character development model in to all program activities.
B) Set up activity centers each day.
C) Distribute snacks to children.
D) Assists children with homework, where applicable.
E) Participates and interacts with children in the center and in outdoor activities.
F) Supervises children under the direction of the program director.
G) Break down of activity centers and cleaning of the program area daily.
H) It is very important that you attend work every day. Requests off must be made 1 week in advance. In the event of an emergency, you must contact the Child Care Director by 8am that day.
I) Counselors are responsible for picking up all supplies daily at the office before going to their site. Be on time. Remember you are not allowed to have personal visitors.
J) You may on occasions be asked to work a different site than one you normally work. On those occasions, be aware of that site's daily procedure and be sure to follow it.
K) Remember we are guests of the school and we must clean all areas we have had access to before leaving that area. Do not allow children to disturb anything that belongs to the school or teachers that we do not have permission to use.
L) Take daily attendance and ensure only parents or authorized persons on the registration form are allowed to pick up the child. Ask for photo identification if it is someone that you are not familiar with. Parents must sign each child out.
M) Distribute snack- be sure and save enough for those children that join our group late after certain practices or study groups. Those of you that take snack for the entire week are required to return all left over snack to the YMCA on Fridays.
N) Supervise and be responsible for all children attending daily, and maintain a positive relationship with the children and parents. Attempt to answer all of your parents' questions. If you cannot answer a question advise them to call the office and speak to the program director.
O) You are responsible for collecting payments. When payments are received at the site you are responsible for writing a carbon copy receipt even if the parent does not request one. At the end of the day, any payments collected must also be logged onto the payment log and turned into the front desk that day.
P) You will be provided the past due list each week; it is your responsibility to tell parents when they are behind on their payments.
Q) Monthly drills must be done each month, also check your first aid supplies, flashlights, fire extinguisher and smoke detector.
R) Fill out your planning sheet daily and be sure and remind all parents of all field trips at least one week prior to the field trip. It is your responsibility to prepare for the field trips, let your supervisor know where and when you want to go so, we can make sure the bus is available. If you are planning on swimming at the YMCA, be sure and let us know so we can contact the Aquatics Director.
S) Monday thru Thursday each week you are to wear a YMCA T-shirt and tennis shoes. Friday will be school spirit day. You may wear a T-shirt showing school spirit of the school district you work in. You are still required to wear a name tag.
T) Remember- Age-appropriate time out is the only discipline allowed (minutes of time out allowed-the child's age). If you have a child who is not following the rules talk to the program director.
U) It is very important to get to know your parents, principals & custodians.
V) Cell phones are to be used for contacting your supervisor or a parent ONLY!
W) Do not allow children to leave once they are in your care
X) Take children outside daily, weather permitting.
Y) Safety of the children is our #1 concern. We want the children to have fun and feel comfortable in our program but remember- SAFETY is out #1 concern!
Report any items that may need attention to your supervisor or Maintenance Director.

Monday-Friday 2:30pm- 6:00pm (NISD)
Monday-Friday 2:30pm-6:00pm (PNGISD/PAISD/ECISD)
Monday-Friday 2:15pm-6:00pm (LCMCISD)
