Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park is seeking an Accounting Associate who can perform essential accounting duties such as accounts payable/receivable, payment handling procedures, processing funds, disbursing refunds, posting, or reconciling ledgers and accounts, and preparing consolidated reports. Assist the Business Manager when required. The position must adhere to University financial management standards. Excellent communication and computer skills are essential to this position. In addition, a successful candidate must be positive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED AND Four years accounting clerical experience.

Preferences:

Experience
  • Experience in processing mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Experience with personal computers and financial software, manual and automated office equipment; to prepare written records and reports; to input data.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles, mathematical methods and techniques.
  • The candidate should be highly organized, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks under specific time constraints.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • General knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Experience dealing with faculty, staff, students and outside visitors.
  • Familiarity with procurement and inventory procedures. Familiarity with UM Travel processes.

Physical Demands
  • Mostly sedentary work performed in an office environment requiring the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards for extended times.
  • Ability to review, prepare, and analyze data and figures, transcribe, and engage extensive reading of materials and computer screens.
  • Ability to traverse short/long distances on and off campus.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Candidate will be in an open office area and will encounter regular interruptions by customers and visitors to the office.
