Access Services Manager

Edens Library

Position Summary

The Access Services Manager is responsible for the Circulation and resource sharing functions of Edens Library, oversight of student peer assistants, and provides administrative support. The Access Services Manager provides basic research support and instruction on using information resources. This position is scheduled to work 1:30 pm 10:00 pm Sunday through Thursday during the academic year and 8:30 am - 5:00 pm during summer and academic intersessions. The position reports to the Director of Edens Library while working collaboratively with other members of the Library and Learning Commons faculty and staff.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

Access Services:

  • Manage the circulation of books and materials, including notifications and billing for lost items.
  • Mange interlibrary loan and PASCAL Delivers document delivery services.
  • Manage course reserves.
  • Ensure the proper shelving and storage of books and materials; maintain orderly stacks.
  • Provide outreach and marketing about building hours and access services.
  • Manage the space, including study room reservations and building closing.

Student Worker Supervision:

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student peer assistants, who provide circulation services and peer mentorship for basic research and information use.
  • Manage the new hire paperwork and onboarding process for all student employees of the Learning Commons.

Administrative Support:

  • Participate in procurement processes and monitoring the budget.
  • Provide administrative support to the library for services, programs, and assessment.
  • File building maintenance requests.
  • Manage mail pick-up and delivery.

Public Services:

  • As a back-up to student peer mentors, provide basic research support and instruction on using information resources.
  • Connect users with on-call librarians for advanced research and instruction support.

Other:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in community life and activities of Columbia College.

Qualifications
Required:

  • Associates degree or two years of college
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role
  • Evidence of effective communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail

Preferred

  • Bachelors degree
  • Previous work experience in a library
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel or Google Docs and Sheets
  • Working knowledge of Alma/Primo ILS and discovery systems
  • Working knowledge of Illiad or other ILL or document delivery platforms
  • Familiarity with electronic resources, including databases and e-book collections
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Tutoring or mentoring experience

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to visually inspect objects
