The Trajectory Analyst position will provide trajectory analysis and optimization support for spacecraft, launch, and reentry vehicles, and missiles, for Earth-centric and interplanetary missions. This position will support conceptual design/technology assessments, pre-launch analysis for on-contract programs, launch and Mission Ops, and end-of-life phases. Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) trajectory design and Cis-Lunar trajectory work will also be focal points for this role.
The Trajectory Analyst will provide trajectory optimization insights for contested space applications in addition to traditional mission needs. Selected candidates are expected to become technical leaders among engineering peers, demonstrate the ability to think critically and operate independently, and effectively communicate complex information to key stakeholders, both internal and external. The expectation is for the Trajectory Analyst to cultivate new department customers and tasks.
Work Model:
100% Onsite : This position will be located 100% onsite in Colorado Springs, CO or El Segundo, CA
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Develop and apply advanced techniques for solving flight mechanics and astrodynamics problems
- Perform trajectory simulation and performance optimization of launch vehicles, upper stages, missiles, spacecraft, and reentry vehicles
- Implement optimization theory including calculus of variations approaches and/or non-linear programming
- Analyze and optimize chemical propulsion, low thrust propulsion, and hybrid propulsion orbit transfers
- Support launch vehicle ops and spacecraft orbit transfer campaigns
- Implement scripting techniques to perform parametric studies
- Utilize numerical methods (numerical integration, root-solving problems, coordinate transformations).

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university program in Aerospace Engineering , Mechanical Engineering or related field (pursing or conferred within the last 12 months)
- 0-1 industry experience
- Conceptual knowledge in one or more of the following: flight mechanics, trajectory modeling and simulation, orbital mechanics, astrodynamics or optimal control
- Conceptual knowledge in one or more of the following: modeling launch vehicle and missile trajectories, particularly to non-traditional orbit regimes or modeling the target vehicle’s dynamics
- Familiar with using parameter optimization and the ability to model multiple vehicles in single analysis framework
- Familiar with using optimal control software packages like GPOPS-II
- Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages and environments is desired: C, C++, Fortran, Python, Matlab, Unix

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- A Ph.D degree from an accredited college/university program in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline (pursing or conferred within the last 12 months)
- Graduate level course work in orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, numerical methods, optimal control, and optimization
- Previous Internship experience in or related to flight mechanics, trajectory optimization, orbital mechanics
- TS//SSBI (SCI) clearance is preferred (applicant will be submitted for this clearance upon hiring if they do not currently possess it)

$82,000 - $97,000 - $111,000
