About the Job

Family Centered Services of Alaska is seeking a Youth Mentor to work with children, adolescents, and their families in the home, school, and community environment. The Youth Mentor will provide services to clients in the FCSA REACH Respite Home Program.

The REACH program provides respite service to parents, foster parents or guardians of children enrolled in FCSA programs. Services are provided in a residential home and a maximum of five children can be accommodated at each respite session. The home operates a five day per week schedule. This position works Tuesday - Saturday each week.

Roles and Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintains daily reporting and charting on clients including Medicaid documentation as well as other treatment related paperwork as required by FCSA Policies and Procedures, and applicable State of Alaska and/or federal laws, regulations, and special grant conditions.
  • Participates in treatment team meetings.
  • Provide on site support to clients as required to achieve objectives and goals identified in the clients’ ISP.
  • Serve as the contact person for parents and/or legal guardian of FCSA clients while in respite care
  • Coordinate and act as FCSA community liaison with professional staff of other organizations and agencies such as school district, OCS, Juvenile Justice, social workers, etc. as required.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of recreational, educational, and vocational activities.
  • May accompany clients during travel to and from school, activities, court hearings, and appointments.
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed.
  • Provide support to other REACH staff.
  • Participate in the training and orientation of newly hired Reach Counselors with regards to working with clients, paperwork/documentation, and the duties of particular shifts.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in psychology, social work, guidance and counseling, or education. Equivalent work and/or educational experience may be substituted on a year-by-year basis. When substituting educational experience 30 college credits will be considered equal to one year of substitute experience.
  • One year experience working with children or adults with emotional or behavioral issues required.
  • Administrative experience preferred.
  • Communication and emotional skills adequate to work as part of a treatment team.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computers and common software applications.
  • Must possess the sensitivity and background to provide services that are culturally appropriate.
  • Personal characteristics suitable to serve as a positive role model for students.
  • Current Alaska driver’s license and insurable driving record in accordance with FCSA policy limitations/restrictions. Adequate transportation to escort clients.
  • Freedom from previous criminal convictions that may adversely affect the employee’s compatibility with the TFH clients and employee standards established by FCSA. A fingerprint and/or records check will be required.
  • Able to meet State of Alaska licensing requirements.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours when necessary, including evenings or weekends.
  • The physical ability to employ verbal and physical aggression control techniques after being certified.

This position is a driving position. Applicants will be required to submit a driving record if selected for the position.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.26 - $16.19 per hour
