STARTING SALARY: Youth Camp Counselor I - $11.70-$18.72/hour
Youth Camp Counselor II - $15.20-$24.32/hour

STATUS: Seasonal (non-benefited, 6 mo. or less)

DEPARTMENT: Parks and Rec/Alta Canyon Sports Center

SUMMARY:

  • Youth Camp Counselor I: Under the general supervision of the Youth Programs and Day Care Coordinator, organizes and supervises youth programs and participants. Youth Camp Counselors play an important role here and in the community by working with our children. Build confidence, be a mentor, provide guidance, keep children safe, mold the future, play games and create memories. Drive 15 passenger buses to and from field trips. Hours can vary between 25-38 hours per week. Hours of operation for this program 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Learn more & apply at sandy.utah.gov.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
:

  • Youth Camp Counselor I: High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Requires some experience in job related activities, including working with children. Must be at least 18 years old to apply. Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s License. CPR, First Aid and Food Handlers certification required. Must also complete a minimum of 20 hours of training per calendar year. Background check test required before working with children. Knowledge of games, sports, arts and crafts, storytelling and music; correct English usage, spelling and vocabulary. Great responsibility for the care, condition and use of materials, equipment, money, tools, etc.; great responsibility for making decisions affecting the activities of people including responsibility for worker motivation and satisfaction; responsibility for assigned part-time and seasonal employees. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public; contacts requiring tact and judgment to avoid friction and obtain desired result; outside contact with public presenting information.
  • Youth Camp Counselor II: Requires some experience in job related activities, including working with children; must be at least 16 years of age. Background check required before working with children. CPR, First Aid and Food Handlers certification required. Must also complete a minimum of 20 hours of training per calendar year. Knowledge of games, sports, arts and crafts, storytelling and music; correct English usage, spelling and vocabulary. Great responsibility for the care, condition and use of materials, equipment, money, tools, etc. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public; contacts requiring tact and judgment to avoid friction and obtain desired result; outside contact with public presenting information. English literacy skills to care for children and respond to emergencies. Regular use of a copy machine and telephone; occasional use of a personal computer.
