Radiologic Technologist wanted for privately owned Galileo Surgery Center specializing in innovative pain procedures to treat chronic and malignant pain.
We have 3 three surgery centers located in Atascadero, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Maria. Time flexibility and travel is required.
The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for;
● Taking High Quality Radiographic Images.
● Helping with Patient Transportation in and out of the OR.
● Helping with patient transfer on and off the OR table.
● Adjusting the patient positioning to ensure High Quality Radiographic Images.
● Keeping a record of all the x-ray exams done in the patient chart.
● Archiving the X-rays into the computer Network.
The Rad Tech is responsible for maintaining their updated California Fluoroscopy license. As well as any required Continuing Education.
The Rad Tech is responsible for keeping their Basic Life Support card up to date every two years.
The safety of the Patients as well as the staff is of utmost importance. The Rad Tech is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment in regards to patient transfers, Radiation dose, and safe operation of the C-arm Fluoroscopy machine.
The Rad Tech is required to follow the principles of ALARA. As Low as Reasonably Achievable. Which means that the Rad Tech will be careful to use the least amount of radiation reasonably required to obtain a high-quality X-ray image.
The Rad Tech works under the supervision of the Doctor during the procedures in the OR. It is the Rad Tech’s responsibility to understand the medical related Radiographic terminology used by the Doctor to be able to move the X-ray machine (C-arm) in the correct direction to obtain the best image for the procedure. Terms such as: AP, lateral, Oblique, Tilt etc. must be easily understood by the Rad Tech to be able to assist the Doctor during the procedure.
The Rad Tech is responsible for helping with patient transportation in and out of the OR for all the patients. The Tech must be able to work safely and efficiently to help transport the patient in the gurney.
The Rad Tech is responsible for helping with patient transfer onto and off the OR table. The Rad Tech must be trained how to safely help the patient onto and off the OR table. The Rad Tech is responsible for making sure the gurney is always locked during any patient transfer. They are also responsible to help assist the patient with the transfer to and from the OR table. This part of the job requires the Rad Tech to be patient, kind, and willing to help with the transfer. At times this may involve some heavy lifting. To be safe the Rad Tech should always ask for help from other staff members when transferring the patients. At times this may require 1, 2, 3, or more staff members to help with the patient transfer. Also, the Rad Tech must follow the lead of the CRNA to help with the transfer. Good communication skills with the patient and the staff are always extremely important.
When the patient gets onto the table it is the Rad Tech’s responsibility to make sure that the patient is in the correct position for optimal X-ray images. This may require the use of pillows, sponges, sheets, or tape to make sure the patient is in the correct position. If any heavy lifting is involved the Rad Tech should ask for assistance. Also, there should be someone on both sides of the table when the Rad Tech needs to handle difficult patient positioning. This is for the patient’s safety.
After each Radiographic exam the Rad Tech is responsible for documenting the X-ray procedure that was done for the patient. Items included in this paper form are: Procedure, Archived views, Fluoroscopy Time (minutes), Rad Tech time (minutes), Start time, Rad Tech initials, Date, Physician Signature. All these items must be filled out for every patient and then filed in the patient’s chart.
At the end of the day all the X-rays must be carefully archived onto the Computer Network for the appropriate facility.
