We are looking for a Sr. Workload Automation Scheduling Analyst to operationally support the batch job scheduling application of our largest Fortune 500 energy clients in the Baltimore, MD area. The Enterprise-Wide Systems team utilizes D-Series as their batch job scheduling application tool to automate tasks under the Finance, HR and Supply umbrella and currently have 900+ orders that need scheduling/automation. In this role, you will work with the developers to take the code and run the batch job schedule, ensuring it meets all acceptance criteria before pushing to production. As the Scheduling Analyst, you will interpret application/project requests and translate them into valid updates to batch job schedules and create/maintain batch job schedules in the CA/Broadcom Workload Automation-DE Batch Job Scheduling tool as directed by Application Teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in related field (Information Technology or similar) with 6+ years of experience in an application production support role.
  • Experience with a Batch Job Scheduling tool (CA/Broadcom Workload Automation DE or similar!)
  • Experience working with mainframe scheduling tools.
  • Basic Unix & JavaScript knowledge.
  • Ability to use vendor supplied documentation and work with vendor when questions arise.
  • Understanding of batch job flow.
  • Experience dealing with application technical support issues: server patching; software upgrades; overnight batch schedule failure fixes; etc.
  • Strong judgment; excellent analytical ability and consulting skills.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of IT and business. management: proven ability to present to and communicate with Senior and Executive Leaders.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Batch mainframe and server monitoring activities associated with production control and coordination including planning, scheduling, input/output control, job setup, standards, etc.
  • Work with Application and Project Teams to answer questions related to setting up and maintaining their batch job schedules.
  • Interpret application/project requests and translate them into valid updates to batch job schedules.
  • Create/Maintain batch job schedules in the CA/Broadcom Workload Automation-DE Batch Job Scheduling tool as directed by Application Teams. This includes:
  • Adding/Removing/Updating job definitions.
  • Defining job dependencies such as predecessor/successor relationships both within and between application batch job schedules.
  • Defining success/failure criteria for jobs along with action for failures.
  • Automating batch job schedules to run at designated times and at designated frequencies.
  • Simulating and verifying batch job schedules and job flow matches request.
  • Simulating and verifying the batch job schedules for defined conditions/dates.
  • Migrate batch job schedules through various phases from non-production to production (ie development, integrated test, user acceptance test, production).
  • Maintain the following items within the Batch Job Scheduler:
  • Defining alerts to take appropriate action when conditions are met such as opening a ticket/sending an email for job failures.
  • Adding/Updating global variables.
  • Adding/Updating resources to limit how/when jobs run.
  • Maintaining the Job Scheduling Calendar for holidays and special processing days.
  • Setting up/maintaining file monitors to detect when files are created/updated.
  • When necessary, investigate and test new ways to accomplish what the Application/Project Team needs. This may include interacting with the Batch Job Scheduling Tool Vendor.
  • Work with other Teams who install and provide technical support for the Batch Job Scheduling Tool.
  • Participate in/Assist with Disaster Recovery Exercises as scheduled.
  • Assist with testing related to new versions/maintenance for the Batch Job Scheduling Tool.
