Water Services Environmental Health & Safety Specialist Job at City of Phoenix
The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, one of the nation's largest potable water utilities, treats and delivers safe, reliable drinking water to 1.5 million customers across approximately 540 square miles. Phoenix Water Services also manages the sewer collection system and treats wastewater for 2.5 million residents in metropolitan Phoenix.
The Water Services Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will implement, maintain, and ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs at assigned water or wastewater facilities or job sites, including inspections, record keeping, record retention, documentation, training other employees and ensuring training requirements are tracked. Employees assist in the development and implementation of complex environmental, health and safety programs, including interdepartmental regulatory issues and foster a proactive health and safety culture.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Possess excellent communication and computer skills and has experience developing and implementing EHS programs in industrial or utility settings as demonstrated on their cover letter and resume.
SALARY
$25.53 (minimum) - $31.14 (maximum) hourly / $53,102.40 - $64,771.20 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $64,771.20 depending upon qualifications.

Pension Information
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years of skilled experience implementing, reviewing, and revising environmental health or safety programs in a public utility or industrial setting.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- Acquisition of a Grade I Arizona Department of Environmental Quality certification in the appropriate discipline is required by the end of the 12-month probationary period.
- The completion of training related to OSHA or other environmental, health and safety programs may be required during the probationary period.

- This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Proficiency in computer processing and Microsoft programs.
- Experience conducting safety and environmental inspections.
- Experience scheduling, overseeing, and critiquing facilities emergency response drills.
- Experience conducting on the job safety training.
- Prior or current experience serving as an Incident Commander and/or Emergency Coordinator in the event of spills or chemical emergencies.
- Recordkeeping and file maintenance procedure experience.
- Experience in waste disposal.
- Experience in water/wastewater, underground utilities, construction, or industrial setting.
- Experience with federal, state, and local safety and health regulations, and environmental requirements.
