We're looking for an experienced and thought leader to join as our VP of Total Rewards. Reporting to the Chief People & Culture Officer, you will drive Bed Bath & Beyond’s success by bringing your compensation and benefits expertise to our leadership team. You will utilize and combine your prior public company experience, business mindset, and communication skills to understand our business priorities, oversee and evolve our internal HR processes and platforms, design optimal total rewards programs, and align with our performance management practices. You will be a trusted advisor to our Executive Leadership Team and People, Culture, and Compensation Committee/Board of Directors (BOD). The person in this role also maintains responsibility for all matters requiring the engagement of our People, Culture and Compensation Committee, including quarterly meetings, running all broad-based and executive compensation programs for the Company, overseeing our benefits programs

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the planning, design, implementation, communication and evaluation of all Compensation and Benefits programs that allow us to attract, motivate, and retain top talent, ensuring offerings are competitive and align with company values
  • Partner with People, Culture and Compensation Committee and the Board of Directors (BOD) in developing analysis of plan design alternatives, expense and implications, market compensation studies, and competitor proxy analysis
  • Serve as key owner of all Total Rewards programs for our People, Culture and Compensation Committee and Board of Directors (BOD)
  • Continuously evaluate and evolve our Compensation and Rewards programs to ensure they are competitive, relevant, internally aligned with our business needs, and ultimately incenting the intended behaviors/outcomes
  • Develop effective analytics and metrics to influence program direction and monitor business impact and effectiveness
  • Lead the team through regular benchmarking cycles to analyze and assess market data, industry trends, and best practices to create market competitive reward packages
  • Design, implement and maintain processes, tools, and systems needed to grow and support people operations while balancing that with a forward-thinking employee experience strategy
  • Oversee Benefits strategy and design, including health, welfare, and wellness programs
  • Lead change management and communications of Total Rewards philosophy and practices with managers, team members, and across the People Team
  • Prepare annual Total Rewards budget, quarterly forecasts, and work with People, Culture and Compensation Committee on recommendations and allocations
  • Build strong partnerships with the Executive Leadership Team, Legal, Finance and Accounting teams as well as our 3rd party vendors
  • Strategize with the Talent Acquisition team to develop competitive offers rooted in market data and aligned with our compensation philosophy for new hires and existing employees
  • Foster a collaborative, values-driven HR team culture of high standards, strong productivity, and innovation
  • Lead internal marketing/communications to drive awareness, excitement and program participation to improve employee engagement and employee experience

Qualifications:

  • You bring 10+ years’ experience in all Compensation and Rewards programs, including the design, communication, and implementation of compensation (including executive) programs working at large publicly traded companies
  • You have 5+ years working directly with the CPCO (Chief People & Culture Officer), Compensation Committee, CEO and Board on executive/equity compensation strategies and programs
  • You can execute compensation management processes and implements fiscally sound base pay salary structures, variable pay plans and other employee recognition opportunities that will support Bed Bath & Beyond’ s strategic compensation
  • You have experience working with one of the top Compensation Consulting companies such as Mercer, Croner, Willis Towers & Radford
  • You have knowledge of tax, accounting, legal, and regulatory regulations impacting executive compensation
  • You have knowledge of SEC and proxy advisory policies and practices
  • You have experience in the preparation of the annual Proxy including CD&A content and summary compensation tables
  • You have strong business and financial acumen, demonstrated project management skills, outstanding written and verbal skills
  • You are thorough and effective communicator; able to build strong partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • You are highly analytical with the ability to translate data and trends into key insights and recommendations; financial ability and ability to build and manage budgets, models, etc. Proven ability to track, prioritize and drive to success multiple concurrent projects with a strong operational background
  • You are resourceful, innovative, with strong bias for action
  • You are adaptable, strategic, and capable of solving complex business issues
  • You thrive in a changing environment and deal with ambiguity

Preferred:

  • CCP, CEP, and/or CECP
  • Workday knowledge

Salary Range: In Compliance with the New York City Pay Transparency Law, the base salary range for this role is between $280,000-$370,000. This range is not inclusive of any Short Term Incentive or Long-Term Incentive programs. When determining a candidate’s compensation several factors are determined including skillset, experience, job scope and current market data.
