Position Purpose:

The Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing is a member of the Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the CEO. The VP is responsible for formulating and implementing strategy to maximize philanthropic revenue and to advance the branding and marketing efforts of KHI. The VP leads a team of Foundation, Public Relations and Marketing professionals to execute strategies that drive growth and that result in the acquisition and retention of customers and community engagement.

ey Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


Provides leadership to the teams overseeing special events, media relations, public relations, digital strategy, branding, content marketing, external and internal communications, and volunteer services.


Oversees strategic initiatives for donor communications, foundation fundraising, and community outreach and benefit programs.


Develops and implements an integrated strategic communications plan to advance KHI’s mission, broaden awareness of organization’s services and increase visibility of its programs across key stakeholder audiences.


Creates marketing/public relations strategy that will allow the Senior Leadership Team to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including media and key influencers.


Identifies challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization. Works with leaders and employees to recognize internal and external communication opportunities and solutions and execute appropriate strategies to support them.


Oversees the development of all KHI print communications including annual reports, marketing materials, website material and new media.


Serve as lead spokesperson on media interactions affecting the organization exercising judgment to prioritize media opportunities.


Prepares talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting material as needed for own appearances and those of the Senior Leadership Team when needed.


Engages, cultivates, and manages press relationships to ensure coverage of the organization’s services, the Foundation’s events, special events, public announcements, and other projects.


Develops the annual agenda for Foundation programs and oversees planning and implementation of events. Reports to the CEO and Board on the results of Foundation initiatives.


Develops and recommends to the CEO operating and capital expenditure budgets for assigned functions. Ensures that fiscal policies and procedures are followed. Manages and directs operations in such a manner that established budgets are met. Provides written and verbal reports to the CEO concerning reporting department’s financial performance on a regular basis. Recommends adjustments or exceptions to the budget when unexpected or unusual circumstances arise.


Provides feedback and makes recommendations to the CEO relating to Public Relations and Marketing.

Communicates effectively, professionally, and courteously with board members, medical staff, employees, patients, and visitors. Communicates in a manner that generates trust and respect through honest and candid interaction. Solicits feedback and listens to alternative points of view.


Conveys the mission, vision, values, and goals of KHI as well as other necessary information to the appropriate individuals. Keeps the Board, CEO, and others informed with the appropriate level of information.


Presents verbal and written ideas and information concisely, logically, and effectively. Keeps in mind the intended audience.


Establishes high but attainable expectations and goals. Creates an atmosphere in which goals and objectives are met through teamwork and cooperation. Holds reporting managers/employees accountable for achieving desired goals and objectives.


Makes good decisions by recognizing key issues, soliciting input when appropriate, identifying alternatives with the associated possible risks and gains, and chooses the alternative which best contributes to hospital goals and objectives. Effectively handles stressful situations.


Effectively prioritizes tasks and uses time wisely in the performance of responsibilities. Completes assigned tasks effectively and in a timely manner. Delegates duties appropriately to ensure maximum efficiency in the attainment of goals and objectives.


Personally participates in local civic activities and participates in appropriate hospital community relations activities.


Participated in professional growth and encourages professional growth in others.


Fully supports the organization’s efforts to promote both work and patient safety by encouraging employee feedback (surveys, suggestion boxes, individual or group interactions, etc.) and then acting on that feedback


Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.

Experience: Five years’ experience in a management role in Marketing, Communications, Foundation or Public Relations. Experience within the healthcare industry is STRONGLY preferred.

Skills: Excellent leadership and team-building skills; good political acumen with the ability to exercise mature and sound judgment in the development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures; effective interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills; ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare concise, accurate reports; knowledge of current state and federal regulatory requirements; personal computer skills.


Preferences

Education: Advanced degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field preferred.
