Job Summary

Responsible for the daily management and operation of the Veteran Services Office. Provides daily oversight of staff, time management, training and mentoring and performance evaluation. Additional duties include being the College’s VA Certifying Official, reviewing eligibility for VA educational benefits, reconciliation of funds and audit preparation and accountability.

Essential Duties

Certify VA Educational Benefits using VAOnce; counsel students regarding eligibility for VA Educational benefits; maintain accurate student records of benefit eligibility, enrollment, degree audits and academic progress.

Responsible for staff supervision; organizes and coordinates work-flow and schedules; monitors quantitative and qualitative output and staff effectiveness, performance evaluation of staff.

Develop, prepare and execute staff training activities; maintain accurate records of such activities as well as office meetings; prepare and maintain accurate records and meeting minutes.

Participate in the development of departmental goals and objectives.

Provide factual information for policy & procedure development; review and update the Veteran Educational Benefits annually.

Responsible for account reconciliation, audit preparation, assessment and compliance testing.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a Behavioral Sciences area, Public or Business Administration or related field.

3 years experience working in veteran education claims.

Demonstrated ability to read and interpret the Title 38 regulations and apply them to the College’s processing of VA Educational Assistance programs as appropriate.

Knowledge of principles of supervision, operations, and training, including management of a complex, multi-staff environment.

Experience establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to and the ability interact effectively with a diverse student population and all college service areas.

Detail-oriented ability with good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

operational knowledge of computer programs including skills in Word, Excel, Access, and VAOnce.
