UPPER WEST SIDE FAMILY SEEKS FULL-TIME NANNY FOR SON WITH ASD Job at The Nanny League, Inc.
Overview:
NEW YORK, NY (LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY)-Incredible, loving parents in the UPPER WEST SIDE seek a FULL-TIME NANNY for their 6-year-old boy. The hours are from 9am-5pm Monday, 11am-7pm Tuesday-Wednesday, noon-7:30pm Thursday, and 9am-6pm Friday. They would love someone who is open to working very occasional weekends, but it is not a requirement! 40 hours per week are guaranteed.
Their son was recently diagnosed with Autism. He is high functioning cognitively but has sensory and regulation issues. He attends occupational therapy Mondays, tutoring Mondays and Fridays from 11am-1pm, and is in 1:1 school Tuesday-Thursday from noon-2/3pm. The nanny will be responsible for taking him to and from appointments and school and needs to be present, but not involved in the sessions. Subway and/or car fare will be provided while on the job. The nanny’s time on the job may overlap with other caregivers (therapists, teachers, etc.). Mom may also be in and out of the home and appointments on occasion. Must be a team player!
Their son is affectionate, curious, talkative, bright, and creative. He has difficulties with self-regulation and needs a caregiver who can help him with regulation skills and tolerate moments when he has trouble. He has a recent history of aggressive behavior resulting from anxiety and ASD, which is currently being managed with medication (mostly always administered by parents) and behavioral therapy. He can be rigid and can make eccentric demands due to anxiety (eg, he won't ride the 3 train, and has to take the 2 train). He also can become dysregulated suddenly by unpredictable triggers. Parents are looking into adding an ABA therapist to his care team.
Experience working with children with special needs is NOT a requirement. They are moreso interested in candidates who truly love being around kids and is mature and maternal, but also goofy and fun. Someone who wants to do one-to-one care as opposed to teaching or social work or psychology. Most of all, they are looking for someone who can be his playdate, guardian, and keep him stimulated throughout the day. He has had the same nanny for the first 5 years of his life and is looking for another long-term companion.
The ideal candidate is mature, skilled, and reliable. Parents seek a collaborative partner with good instincts who is willing and able to learn their behavioral program and make adjustments when necessary. Someone who communicates openly with the parents about any concerns, ideas or need for support. Must be open to following any guidelines and approaches suggested by therapists and/or parents. Flu shot, covid vaccine and boosters are required. Must be pet-friendly, as they have a cat, snails, and fish in the home (no care required).
Benefits include paid sick days, holidays, and experience. Pay is $30-35/hour, commensurate with experience. Start date is ASAP!
