Responsibilities:
The Ultrasound Technologist will work Per Diem, On Call as measured by direct or indirect supervisory observation and/or co-worker feedback, the successful incumbent demonstrates skills in the following duties and responsibilities.

Examples of these include, but are not limited to the following:
  • The Ultrasound Technologist performs all requested ultrasound examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Determines most suitable anatomical position and shields patients accordingly.
  • The Ultrasound Technologist produce high quality images consistent with LFH Bassett Healthcare Network Medical Imaging standards.
  • Practices under the guidelines of all LFH Bassett Healthcare Network Policies, Procedures and Protocols.
  • Knowledge of Human Anatomy and Physiology.
  • Fluent utilization of RIS, PACS, and EMR systems.
  • Responsible for safe handling of equipment and images.
  • Proper use of Ultrasound imaging equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining basic records and reports.
  • Performs Quality Control checks on equipment.
  • Order supplies as needed, maintaining optimized inventory levels.
  • Able to transfer and transport patients in a safe manner.
  • The Ultrasound Technologist prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians when required, according to established procedures.
  • Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
  • Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
  • Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
  • The Ultrasound Technologist assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the ultrasound area/department.
  • Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
  • Maintains accurate patient records for all procedures performed, maintaining patient confidentiality, and adhering to all HIPAA standards.
  • Participates in department on-call rotation as policy states.
  • Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.
Organizational Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to standards of practice as set forth in policy and guidelines to assure patient safety.
  • Uses supplies and institutional resources in a financially responsible manner.
  • Maintains an orderly, clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintains appropriate, professional personal appearance, including but not limited to required attire such as uniforms and safety apparel.
  • The Ultrasound Technologist assists in the training process of students and/or orientation of new personnel.
  • Participates in staffing patterns that reflect variable demands in service.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude.
  • Uses flexibility and innovation while problem solving.
  • Demonstrates collaborative practice, support and respect for each team member.
  • Participates in departmental / organizational committees.
  • Demonstrates initiative in expanding and sharing knowledge.
  • Participates in continued education through attendance and presentations at in-service sessions.
  • The Ultrasound Technologist communicates with patients and coworkers while adhering always to hospital policies for the protection of the privacy of patient health information and confidentiality.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Communicates necessary information to supervisor or team leader in support of unit, departmental and facility standards and policies.
Qualifications:
Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. This mandate requires COVID-19 vaccinations for personnel working for or on behalf of our hospitals and nursing homes. The New York State mandate allows for medical exemptions and religious accommodations, when appropriate. All candidates who accept an offer from Bassett Healthcare Network will be required to show proof of vaccination as required by New York State.

Education:
  • Graduate of a formal Ultrasound Program, required.
  • ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) credential must be obtained within two (2) years from date of hire.
Experience:
  • Three years of Ultrasound experience, preferred.
  • Experience with breast scans, preferred.
Licensure/Certificates:
  • ARDMS or RVT registration required within two (2) years.
  • Must be certified in 1 of the following specialties within two (2) years:
    • AB (Abdomen)
    • OB (OB/Gyn)
    • VT (Vascular Technology)
  • BLS certification, required within 30 days of hire.
Skills:
  • Excellent motor, hand, eye, coordination and manual dexterity required.
  • Ability to handle and operate equipment, read, retains and comprehends written and oral medical and technical information.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly, develop trust, sustain working relationships, and represent LFH positively in internal and external meetings is required.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills, required.
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills, required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Position requires extensive standing, occasional sitting and routine walking.
  • Ability to lift, possibly heavy lifting in support of patient positioning, instrument and equipment handling.
