TOUR GUIDE and BRAND AMBASSADOR for BASKET & BIKE

We offer several tours on classic bikes, in downtown Richmond and on the Capital Trail from Upper Shirley Vineyards. They all rely on similar stories of history and nature. We also do special events, team building, and custom excursions like birthday rides, picnic rides, garden rides, or yoga.

The position would lead tours, ride sweep on larger tours, and set up/pick up rentals. There may be other opportunities as the business grows. Saturday and Sunday availability is a REQUIREMENT–most tours are booked on Sat/Sun.

• Signature Ride-Upper Shirley Vineyards in Charles City - 14 miles. Wed-Sun. 10am. (3 hours)
• Petite Signature Ride-Upper Shirley Vineyards in Charles City - 6 miles. Wed-Sun. 10am (2 hours)
• Downtown Sunset - 6 miles. Thursdays. 5pm-time changes with season (2.5 hours)
• Discover Downtown - 6 miles. Daily. 10am and 3pm and 4pm (1 and 2.5 hours)
• Quirk Street Art & Secret Garden Tour - 7 miles. Daily. 10am and 2pm. (2.5 hours)

Job Duties

Bike Tour or Rental Set Up

• Retrieve and set up bikes, baskets, and helmets from storage based on height and size
• Check for heights and waivers signed (requires smartphone for software/waiver apps)
• Wipe down bikes/check tires
• Fasten baskets and liners and for rentals, communicate lock code to guests
• Pick up supplies ahead of and drop off after
• Set up snack/water/merch
• Basic first-aid knowledge or willingness to take a class
• Photograph tour guests with bikes (requires smartphone)
• Greet rental guests (preferred but not required based on time of pick-up)

Tour Duties

• Introduce guests to bike use, trail use, and safety

• Share B&B mission/conservation focus

• You will make stops along the way to tell the rich history of the area based on a book "The River Where America Began: A Journey Along the James" by Richmond native, Bob Deans

• You will be given a script to follow for each different tour, while allowing for any unique stories you may have that fit

• Congratulate guests upon return, offer end-of-ride gifts

• Remind that merch/bikes/baskets are available for purchase/remind them to review their ride

• Set up guests for wine and/or lunch or give voucher for free items

After Tour or Rental

• Disinfect and store bikes, baskets, and helmets

• Collect trash and used hand towels/willingness if needed to wash towels and make new ones

• Share photos after and keep an eye on bike maintenance needs

This person will

• Love nature, storytelling, history, playing the host, and helping people feel comfortable
• Be quick at memorizing multiple tour stories and routes, with option to add own flair later
• Be flexible/take initiative to think on their feet if a tour needs altering for time or obstacle
• Be comfortable on classic and electric bikes in the city and on the trail
• Share the BASKET & BIKE vision and respect the reputation of the brand
• Be able to transport at least 4 bikes via their vehicle

Wage is hourly - $16/hr, with opportunity for tips from guests. This is a part-time schedule, with no more than a few times a week or less, depending on tours booked. We give tours year-round as long as the temps are above 45 degrees, and tours are most active March-Nov. Ideally your schedule will allow for multiple days of the week being possibilities. Sat and Sun availability is REQUIRED.
