Temporary Director of ESL & Au Pair Programs Job at Long Island University

The Temporary Director of ESL & Au Pair Programs is responsible for the overall administration of the Modern Language Center at LIU Brooklyn. This position is a ninety day temporary position.

Principal Responsibilities:

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Creating new courses and programs for English as a Second Language and Au Pairs, either separately or in collaboration with other university departments.

· Creating and controlling departmental budgets

· Hiring, supervising, observing, advising, evaluating and scheduling adjunct faculty

· Creating semester contracts, workloads and payrolls for faculty and staff

· Developing and managing program advertising, marketing and recruitment

· Registering, testing and placing students; evaluating placement and final examination tests

· Facilitating student bill clearance

· Hiring and managing office staff

· Advising other university departments on ESL-related matters affecting their programs

· Creating testing/evaluation instruments for all programs

· Developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures

· Advising students on financial aid, immigration and academic issues

· Managing student disciplinary matters

· Collecting, maintaining databases for, and submitting student grades


Education Requirements:

Master’s degree in the field of theoretical/applied linguistics or TESOL.


Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:

Extensive teaching/administrative experience, knowledge of immigration policy, knowledge of placement instruments/methodology for second language learners, experience with computer assisted language learning (CALL) and excellent PC/internet/e-mail skills are required. Working knowledge of at least one foreign language (especially French, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic and/or Russian) is highly desirable.
