POSITION: Maps and Records Technician

The compensation package, expected to range between $55,000-65,000 in annual salary along with a generous

benefit package, will be negotiable based on experience and qualifications

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Gas Division Managers and in collaboration with the Gas Division Engineer, the Maps

and Records Technician is responsible for management and import of technical data into digital mapping

systems, generation of reports and permit preparation. Works closely with other departments within the

organization and consultants on various projects.

Maps and Records Technician Duties: 

Convert data and gas distribution, ink and mylar maps to AutoCAD and a digital GIS mapping system; 

Assist in report creation to identify the location of materials and installations utilizing GPS equipment; 

Prepare scaled drawings for construction projects, meter and regulator sets and assist in preparation of

information requests, inspections and surveys; 

Prepare state and local road opening and trench permits; 

Prepare reports to comply with DIMP (Distribution Integrity Management Plan) requirements and the

cast iron main replacement program; and 

Develop/modify/maintain digital and manual drafting records; 

Maintain various MA DPU annual distribution surveys/records including cathodic protection, valves,

leakage and meter set inspections. 

Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications: 

Strong computer skills required with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. (AutoCAD, GIS

mapping systems, Excel, MS Office, PowerPoint programs, etc.) 

Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret gas distribution system information and prepare drawings. 

Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers. 

Good oral and written communications skills. 

Comprehensive understanding of mains and services facility documentation. 

Associates Degree in Computer Aided Drafting Technology (AutoCAD) 

Minimum of two years of related experience. 

A valid Massachusetts drivers’ license (required)
