Description of Position

The Technical Director of the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center manages the back of the house (Auditorium and Stage) and determines the necessary technical support for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates including lighting, sound, staging, and special needs. This position reports to the Manager, PAC Operations.

  • Provide technical/cost feedback on artist contracts
  • Advises Stage/Technical supervisor regarding lighting and sound designers on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervises the implementation of approved technical designs
  • Assists with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
  • Work with Operations Manager to generate accurate/timely invoices
  • Recruit/Train/Schedule employees for individual shows to work back of the house
by 'Advancing the Show' and ensure we have needed items to support the contract including: food, transportation, equipment,personnel
  • Set up lobby, green room, president's club and tables for pre-show dinners
  • Manage Back of the House budget
  • Liaison with artist

Minimum Expectations & Requirements
  • Professional work and educational experience equivalent to Bachelor's degree in technical theatre, business, or closely related field and supervisory experience, preferably in a commercial performing arts setting
  • Candidate must have a solid background in sound design and be competent to run the sound board for all school music events, rentals, and professional presenting artists as need be.

  • Working knowledge of musical and stage entertainment production techniques and requirements
  • Strong team player attitude and excellent work ethic
  • Demonstrated ability to operate sound and lighting equipment, technical rigging, and multimedia for performing arts
  • Maintain irregular and extended working hours. Willingness to be 'on-call' in case of emergencies. Requires working nights, weekends, and some holidays and includes 12-hour shifts.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Working knowledge of basic fire and safety codes
  • Ability to lift, push or pull objects up to 100 pounds using appropriate tools. Physical ability to kneel, crouch, reach and exert.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability toward the performance of job duties

Preferred Skills & Abilities
  • Degree in Technical Theatre, Theatre Arts, Arts Administration
  • Ability to professionally represent the college.
  • Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment.
