Fall assistant teaching positions available!
The COMPASS School is seeking a teaching assistant with an ABA focus to work with students who have emotional/behavioral disorders, along with specific learning disabilities. Responsibilities will include working directly with a variety of students in a support role, assisting with implementation of individualized behavior plans and classroom group contingencies, as well as assisting with data collection, visual analysis, program design, consultation to teachers, and monitoring student progress.
COMPASS is a private non-profit community- based organization which provides special education, intensive outreach and tracking, counseling, tutoring, enrichment, and violence prevention programs. Established in 1974, COMPASS has served more than 7,500 high-risk urban youth and their families. Using a team approach, experienced professionals from diverse backgrounds annually serve over 250 children, adolescents and families through our programs. COMPASS’ private therapeutic day school serves a diverse group of inner-city elementary, high school, and vocational students with emotional and behavioral disorders. Students range from 6-21 years of age, and classrooms are usually staffed with a 6 student to 1 teacher/staff ratio. COMPASS School is composed of a team of special education teachers, social workers, caseworkers (behavioral support staff), an Occupational Therapist, Speech & Language Pathologist, and BCBA.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or related field
- Currently enrolled in MS or MA program in Applied Behavior Analysis
- Experience working with children with ASD, PTSD, and/or emotional-behavioral disorders in individual or group settings
- Proficient skills in data collection methods
- Some familiarity with IEPs and Special Education
- Proficient in Google Suite
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to remain neutral in the face of challenging behaviors
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
