Virginia DMV’s Tax Services Administration is hiring for a Tax Examiner Senior to perform tax examination responsibilities with Virginia Fuels Tax. In this position, you would be responsible for verifying the accuracy and timeliness of tax dollars received, ensuring entries made to the automated system are accurate and timely. You would also be responsible for ensuring electronic filers are in compliance, and directing the resolution of all critical error transmissions.

Virginia DMV’s Tax Services Administration is hiring for a Tax Examiner Senior to perform tax examination responsibilities with Virginia Fuels Tax. In this position, you would be responsible for verifying the accuracy and timeliness of tax dollars received, ensuring entries made to the automated system are accurate and timely. You would also be responsible for ensuring electronic filers are in compliance, and directing the resolution of all critical error transmissions.

- Identifying, recommending and incorporating system and procedural enhancements due to reporting and legislative changes
- Assisting in the development and revision of notices to taxpayers
- Providing assistance and training to other tax examiners in the work center
- Establishing cooperative working relationships with our licensed filers
Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, DMV serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. In addition, DMV serves a wide array of businesses, including dealers, fuels tax customers, rental companies, driving schools, other state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Working knowledge of common office operational practices and procedures
- Knowledge of mathematics and business English
- Demonstrated ability to apply mathematical concepts to calculate and verify tax computations
- Experience conducting research and forming justifiable conclusions
- Experience composing business correspondence to external clients and vendors
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources and reconcile daily accounts accurately
- Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying standards and procedures of Virginia regulations
- Experience using a computer for word processing and data entry
- Experience establishing effective working relationships with colleagues and the public as well as working independently

- Experience processing check/credit card transactions, payment collections, and/or bank deposits.
- Experience with tax return processing, error resolution, or auditing.
- Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying standards and procedures of the Virginia Fuels Tax Act
