• 16 years of age or older
• Swim freestyle & backstroke 100 yards
• Tread water for 2 minutes
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Ability to project voice in a loud environment
• Ability to work 2-4 shifts per week consistently
• Must have reliable transportation
• Previous experience working with or around children and/or adults is preferred

Shift Availability
Our Swim Instructors have consistent weekly schedules, with opportunities to add shifts if desired on a week-to-week basis. Instructors are expected to commit to their shifts for a minimum of three months.

Morning Shifts

• Monday 9:00-12:15 pm
• Tuesday 9:00-12:15 pm
• Wednesday 9:00-12:15 pm
• Thursday 9:00-12:15 pm
• Friday 9:00-12:15 pm
• Saturday 8:30-1:00 pm

Evening Shifts

• Monday 3:00-6:45 pm
• Tuesday 3:00-6:45 pm
• Wednesday 3:00-6:45 pm
• Thursday 3:00-5:00 pm
• Friday 3:00-7:15 pm

*Flexibility of start and end times are adjusted as needed based on Instructor availability and class offering*

Position Summary
Provide high-quality professional swim instruction to children and adults while maintaining student safety, using positive reinforcement, and professional communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Have fun while teaching water safety and swimming techniques to students of varying ages and abilities.
• Be actively engaged using teaching methods such as verbal instruction, modeling, hands-on-corrections, positive reinforcement and class control.
• Assess, track, and communicate student progress consistently.
• Take necessary preventative measures to maintain the safety of your class and designated teaching area.
• Develop lesson plans that correspond to program level, student ability and student’s swim goal.
• Recommend relevant programs and upcoming events to current students.
• Maintain tidiness of the pool, pool deck, locker rooms, safety equipment, and equipment racks.
• Daily pool chemical testing and weekly inventory counting.
• Answer the phone and answer basic questions regarding the swim program and/or take detailed call-back messages as needed.

Certifications

• Swim Instructors will become “CPR/AED/FA for Professional Rescuers” certified via the American Red Cross as part of their training if they do not currently hold this certification.
• Swim Instructors will be certified to teach swim lessons as part of their training if they do not currently hold a professional certification.

Advancement & Pay Increases

• Instructors who teach the following demographics are eligible for a higher-rate of pay: parent/child classes, competitive swim strokes, diverse abilities. Training for these demographics is available to those who are interested.
• Instructors who are presently Lifeguard Certified (or are willing to become certified) are eligible for higher rate-of-pay.
• Opportunities for advancement in different positions are available.

What to Expect During the Application Process

• After applying, you will be contacted to schedule a 15-minute phone interview.
• After the phone interview, an in-water interview will be scheduled to assess your swimming skills. Afterward you will meet with the Swim Director to discuss your experience and the role in more detail.
• After the in-person interview, the Management Team will discuss your application and follow up with you on next steps within 3 business days.

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
