Building Skills Partnership (BSP) is a non-profit organization and a unique collaboration between responsible businesses and Service Employees International Union-United Service Workers West (SEIU-USWW) to build a strong future for low-wage service workers and their families by advancing skills, opportunities and self-sufficiency.

Temporary Part-time Instructor - Green Janitor Education Program (GJEP Forward): The Program trains janitorial workers to think critically about their role in sustainability and green buildings. Provides janitorial workers with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions on how to clean while protecting their health and the health of tenants, as well as actionable strategies to become advocates for green cleaning and resource conservation at work and at home. It is a multi-level class with full curriculum provided. Classes are conducted 2-5 hours weekly via live zoom sessions or in person. Teaching schedules will vary and may include early mornings, evenings and nights. Program duration will be 12 hours, plus a 30 min Test. Classes will begin ASAP. Pay rates are based according to BSP instructor wage scale. Class instruction is conducted in Spanish or bilingual English/Spanish. Advanced or fluent Spanish required.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and present programs’ curriculum and materials to program participants.
  • Create lesson plans, evaluate student performance, and give out assignments and projects.
  • Engage effectively with students in both Spanish and English.
  • Keep organized records of daily class attendance.
  • Track individual student progress and identify individual challenges.
  • Aid in the creation of supplemental teaching materials and activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor degree in a related field, or pursuing a degree in education, or other relevant equivalent experience in developing or delivering training and presentations.
  • Experience working in a multicultural context. Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice.
  • Must be fluent in Spanish.
  • Experience on virtual teaching live via Zoom or any other virtual platform required.
  • Engaging and energetic with an ability to respectfully connect with people of other cultures and backgrounds, and ability to incorporate inclusive lesson planning. Exceptional people skills are essential.
  • Flexibility,strong organization and attention to detail. Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work with and incorporate volunteers into the classroom.
  • Detail-oriented and able to comply with administrative duties in a timely manner.
  • Ability to conduct further research and collect data from reliable sources as needed to enrich topics discussed in the curriculum or in class.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: California Adult Ed Teaching Credential and/or M.A. in TESOL/TEFL greatly preferred.
  • Experience: Experience teaching Spanish speakers a plus. Experience teaching vocational ESL is also a plus
  • Reliable transportation should in-person classes resume in the fall 2022.
  • Curriculum Design experience.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $39.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 4 hour shift
  • Weekend availability

License/Certification:
