This Inpatient Medical Supervisory Social Worker position is in Social Worker service at the VA Boston Healthcare System, located at the West Roxbury, MA campus. This position is a full-time at 40 hours per week.
Salary: $110,798 - $144,034 per year
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday-Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
Telework: Telework can be performed on a less than full-time basis anywhere other than a VA facility or using VA-leased space.

The Inpatient Medical Social Work Supervisor is located at VA Boston Healthcare System, a highly complex 1a facility that encompasses three major campuses and five CBOCs. This individual is administratively responsible to the West Roxbury Associate Chief Social Work Service and has full responsibility for the provision of complex social work services requiring advanced practice skill.
In this position, the incumbent is primarily responsible for:
- The oversight and administration Social Work in the Inpatient Medical settings (including Medical/Surgical West Roxbury Campus, the Community Living Center (CLC) Brockton Campus, and the Emergency Department, West Roxbury Campus)
- Directly supervising the social work supervisors for Medical/Surgical and the CLC across two major campuses, while providing support and oversight to the Acute Medical and CLC social work teams
- Assisting in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures, developing individual and group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing Social Work staff
- Assuring that the Social Workers Supervisees are aware of, and adhere to all current directives of VHA, and meet current JCAHO standards, LTCI standards, State licensure standards, and VA-OIG expectations
- Conducting ongoing intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies
- Providing direct clinical services and is involved in facilitating the flow of patients as it relates to discharge planning policies and practices, and the movement of patients around the VISN for inpatient medical care
- Functioning as a leader in projects and initiatives to meet Social Work Service, VA Boston Medical Center and VISN strategic goals
- Accepting additional assignments from the Associate Chief of Social Work including acting for the Associate Social Work Chief
- Being a member of numerous committees at the service, medical center and VISN levels.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
- Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work
- Licensure. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure
- English Language Proficiency. Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English
