We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Community Relations & Employee Engagement Supervisor within our Community Relations & Employee Engagement group based in Houston, TX.
Community Relations & Employee Engagement Supervisor is responsible for managing the Houston-area community investment portfolio that supports the community and the company’s business objectives, along with executing strategic employee programs and engagement activities. This position will engage and build partnerships with local community leaders and organizations to enhance our reputation, and engage employees, as well as work on other projects as assigned by the Director, Community Relations & Employee Engagement. The successful candidate will be based in Houston, Texas, and will be required to travel to various locations. Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for executing strategic employee programs and engagement activities in Houston and the Woodlands - including but not limited to employee experience events, employee volunteering, coordinating employee appreciation days, holiday parties, employee benefits such as tickets, etc.
- Identify, organize, lead, and orchestrate high-impact activities for employees to positively engage in the community, participate in company initiatives and support the desired culture
- Support the cultural changes necessary for the company to thrive by creating an Oxy Pride attitude with employees via an enhanced focus on employee experience, community relations and employee volunteerism
- Works collaboratively with Business Units, Communications, Benefits/Wellness, Legal/Compliance, Accounting, Recruiting/University Relations, and Human Resources teams
- Liaise with Employee Resource Group across the company
- Identify new strategies and process improvements to effectively manage community relations and employee experience to promote Oxy’s brand, amplify on-campus presence, and company culture
- Identify and write community event and employee engagement stories, in collaboration with the Communications team, for internal distribution on the company intranet site
- Manage Houston-area community partner portfolios and related programs – includes communications, face to face meetings with community partners, preparing proposals, recommendations to senior management and executing contracts and employee benefits associated
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, various philanthropic organizations and third party constituencies
- Manage the Houston-area community relations budget, including charitable and outreach activities. Prepare detailed annual budget and re-evaluate the portfolio utilizing impact metrics, quantitatively and qualitatively. Provide recommendations for the following year.
- Serve as liaison for executives and senior leaders on Houston-area community partner boards
- Articulate the company’s philanthropic mission, strategy, and landscape to employees in an engaging and compelling way, connecting the dots for employees and raising awareness of community outreach efforts and volunteerism
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Corporate Responsibility/Sustainability, Communications, Marketing, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years in community relations/affairs, employee advocacy, Human Resources, corporate philanthropy, non-profit or foundation management or equivalent experience with progressively increasing accountabilities.
- Experience managing employees.
- 5+ years of project management experience
- Equally comfortable with strategic thinking and tactical execution.
- Client-centered focus and ability to work in a fast-paced environment manage priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Demonstrate a high-level of creativity, innovation, as well as flexibility and collaboration with an ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent networking skills with the ability to positively represent the company at all times
- Must be organized, detail-oriented and a resourceful problem solver with the ability to formulate and execute plans efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision
- Experience preparing presentations and presenting to senior management
- Demonstrated planning, change management and strategic thinking capabilities
- Ability to simultaneously track, facilitate and deliver multiple community projects and activities to completion
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities to meet internal and external deadlines
- Effective judgement, tact, diplomacy, and discretion is required in all matters
- Excellent communication skills required – strong written, verbal and presentation capabilities
- Advanced level skills in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams
- Availability to attend evening and weekend events as needed
- Ability to travel up to 30% within the Greater Houston Area
- Proven track record of enhancing a Fortune 500 company brand through community programs preferred
