Join the diligent and steadfast Utility and Dish Room Operations team, a vital contributor to the front and back-of-house functions for all of Ithaca College Dining.

Position Summary:

The Supervisor of Dish Room and Utility Operations is accountable and responsible for:

  • Overseeing dish rooms located in Campus Center Dining Hall, Terrace Dining Hall, and Towers Marketplace.

  • Providing direct working oversight for dish rooms and utility responsibilities while on duty, including the functional supervision of full-time, part-time, and student staff.

  • Enacting conflict resolution, ensuring compliance with health and safety measures, and supporting all other operational functions related to daily business.

Supervision:

This position reports to the Manager of Dish Room and Utility Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, in-person, working supervision and leadership of dish room operations while on duty.

  • Work alongside staff members to model safe and efficient operations and performance expectations.

  • Motivate, encourage, and support staff performance through regular hands-on training.

  • Arrange daily operations and services to ensure employees have appropriate equipment, inventory, and resources to perform their jobs and meet goals and deadlines.

  • Meet with students, faculty, staff, and guests to solicit feedback and address concerns related to each unit to ensure outstanding customer service.

  • Inspect all dining units and provide objective coaching and feedback based on operational standards, code compliance, and productivity standards.

  • Ensure employees’ adherence to food safety protocols and policies.

  • Monitor the performance and cleanliness of all dish machines and ancillary equipment.

  • Oversee the sanitary condition and attractive presentation of unit dining rooms, aiding in front-of-house utilities such as cleaning tables, emptying garbage, sweeping, mopping, etc.

  • Contribute to staffing needs in short-handed units when necessary.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and IC policies and procedures (e.g., quality assurance, safety, operations, personnel).

  • Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and cultivate an inclusive, diverse, and respectful Ithaca College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students, and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years professional experience working in a food service dish room operation or other relevant setting.

  • Excellent customer service aptitude.

  • Proven experience in coaching and supervising employees and the ability to adhere to and train staff in the service standards set by Ithaca College Dining Services.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service while working effectively and respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, overtime, and some holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional education and experience, including collegiate/university foodservice.

  • Basic food-handling knowledge.

  • Awareness of food safety protocols.

  • Working knowledge of dish machine troubleshooting and repair.

  • ServeSafe Certification.

Work Environment:

The Supervisor of Dish Room and Utility Operations completes work within an accessible, safe, indoor, and occasional outdoor environment. Long periods of walking, standing, bending, and carrying moderately heavy items (up to 50 pounds) may be necessary. Employees will be issued and/or required to wear slip-resistant shoes, cut gloves, and operate kitchen equipment.
