Alverno College, located in Milwaukee, WI is an undergraduate liberal arts institution for women that

Two-thirds of all Alverno students are first-generation students and more than 60% are Pell eligible. In
2017, Alverno became Wisconsin’s first Hispanic Serving Institution, with 30% of undergraduate women
identifying as Hispanic/Latina and 46% of undergraduates identifying as students of color.

Primary Function: The Student Accessibility Coordinator supports students by determining appropriate
campus accommodations and services for students with documented disabilities (short-
term and long-term).This requires comprehensive knowledge of disability law and an
understanding of pregnant and parenting accommodations required by Title IX.

The Student Accessibility Coordinator reports to the Director of Instructional Support Services, a centralized
department with the college for providing student academic support.

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate support services and accommodations for students with disabilities
a. Research, develop, and share instructional techniques and strategies with faculty and students,
keep current on assistive technology, and maintain and update information for applicants and
students regarding policies and procedures on the Student Accessibility web page
b. Review documentation of disability and meet with incoming students with disabilities to assess
needs
c. Coordinate services, as needed, for continuing and newly referred students (e.g. classroom and
assessment accommodations, tutoring, advocacy, disability specific information, assistive
technology, and self-advocacy, etc.)
d. Produce disability-related accommodation memos and distribute to students for sharing with
instructors
e. Interview referred students, determine appropriateness for sending for an academic evaluation,
refer and participate in feedback appointments to determine appropriate services and
accommodations
f. Provide alternative text for eligible students (Identify required course texts, enter into database,
research availability through available resources including requesting from publishers, prepare
materials for student pick up, and maintain text database and library)

g. Train students on audio book software platforms, keep current with software updates, and
trouble shoot technology glitches
h. Coordinate service efforts with faculty, staff, and peer tutors as needed on disability issues and
Universal Design for Instruction
i. Provide resources and training to faculty, staff, Instructional Services personnel, and student
assistants
j. Act as liaison to Admissions and Advising Offices, Student Affairs, Residential Life, and other
departments in creation and revision of policies and practices as related to students with
disabilities
k. Maintain student and program records through individual files and electronic databases
l. Develop and teach learning strategies workshops as needed
m. Develop program evaluation component
n. Respond to Title IX related pregnancy and parenting accommodations requests and
consult/collaborate with faculty/advising/financial aid/registrar/Title IX Coordinator as
appropriate to provide and track accommodations requests.

2. Work one-on-one with assigned students
a. Work one-on-one with students from department referrals with advisor- or faculty-identified
needs at the undergraduate and graduate levels; test anxiety; time management and
memory/study skills
b. Assess student performance; diagnose obstacles to individual student learning; prepare individual
learning plans; assess progress; provide feedback; maintain session notes; communicate with
faculty and advisor as needed
c. Identify strategies and texts for use with one-on-one students; share with colleagues in
designated department meetings
d. Share findings about common student learning obstacles with faculty and departments; assist
with revising curriculum and/or presenting workshops to meet student needs as requested

3. Perform administrative and college-responsible functions
a. Lead Student Accessibility Accommodations Compliance Team which includes the digital
accessibility timeline implementation
b. Attend appropriate department and committee meetings within Instructional Services and the
College
c. Participate in college Institute sessions and faculty training series
d. Recommend material and book purchases to support student learning
e. Assess, review, and provide feedback for Instructional Services student employees each semester
(evaluating study group monitors)
f. Provide training for student academic assistants as needed
g. Assess, review, and provide feedback as part of formal colleague peer review

4. Keep current with field related literature; attend and present at professional conferences, as appropriate
5. Perform other tasks as necessary to achieve the College mission

Qualifications
Required Experience
Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Vocational
Rehabilitation, Disabilities Studies, Developmental Education, or related field


Minimum of three years of experience in higher education, preferably in disabilities services

Knowledge of Title IX, Clery, FERPA, ADA law and other Department of Education, regulatory, and
accreditation requirements


Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
The ability to work with and maintain confidential information

Understand assistive technology, note taking technology, both free and for pay versions

Preferred Experience
Experience in designing and delivering developmental education in a higher education setting


Experience in independent and collaborative curriculum development

Knowledge of Student Information Systems (Colleague, Pharros, Moodle)

Supervisory

Experience designing and delivering online education and assessment

Ability to read, interpret, write and complete documents such as forms and general correspondence.


Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, work with frequent interruptions, work
independently and be self-motivated.


Ability to support a flexible and collaborative work style and the ability to interact effectively with a
variety of audiences internally and externally

Demonstrated Performance in:
