Position Location: Alachua, Florida
SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant performs more complex accounting activities in accordance with accounting principles and standards to control the organization’s financial resources. Responsible for collecting, compiling, verifying, and analyzing financial information including cash management, inventory, and some AR and AP functions. This position is an expert in the area in which they are in and relied heavily on to support and maintain the Accounting processes and controls.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all accounting transactions
- Oversee and reconcile various GL accounts and payroll administration.
- Manage and reconcile Inventory transactions
- Integral to the monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
- Manage Cash Management processes and reconciliations
- Oversee Tax activities including Sales tax system management and communication with external tax experts
- Communicate and coordinate with external Auditors as directed by the Controller
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
- Communicate with co-workers, management, customers, and others in a courteous and professional manner
- Communicate to management of any areas of accounting that are out of the norm and that require attention, such as missed sales or gross receipts tax payments, payroll clearing adjustments not being made, duplicate payments, missed billings etc.
- Assists corporate finance department with additional projects as necessary
- Additional responsibilities as needed.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Understanding of GAAP
- Interpersonal skills to work independently and as a team
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills required.
- Strong verbal and written skills along with good interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
Requires excellent communication and follow through skills. Occasionally dealing with high stress service issues relating to timely financial management. This position is largely sedentary but may require walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, or climbing. Works constantly (67% to 90% of the time) on the phone and computer. Must be able to move around workplace and between different office locations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This job operates in a professional office environment and requires contact with staff and public. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Work is performed in air conditioned/heated facilities.
