Reports to: Shipping and Receiving Supervisor
Purpose and Scope:
Assist and back up Shipping and Receiving Supervisor in general direction and coaching of individuals and the team, coordination of work assignments, and other items beneficial to the success of the team.
Provide leadership and direction to employees in Shipping, Receiving or a project setting.
Improve utilization of resources, both material and human through better planning and scheduling.
Assist in the development of work instructions, training and certifying team members and assisting in special projects.
Learn all elements and assignments related to the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor’s duties and be able to perform as a knowledgeable, capable and highly efficient back up when the S+R Supervisor is out of the office for an extended period of time or is involved in other responsibilities.

Leadership:

Assist and back up Supervisor in general direction and coaching of individuals and the team, coordination of work assignments, and other items beneficial to the success of the team. Lead and direct employees in Shipping dept., Receiving dept., or project setting. Improve utilization of resources, both material and human through better planning and scheduling.

Assist in maintaining detailed and organized data records for the department through the use and successful operation of established data systems and procedures. Communicate to other shifts in a clear and concise manner and complete all hourly and daily reporting prior to leaving at the end of the shift. Follow through on tasks that go beyond a shift, including staying late to ensure that trucks get loaded when necessary.

Responsible for achieving productivity, quality, and safety levels as set for the department.

Assure team members perform tasks according to established procedures.

Lead and motivate others in a positive manner, including coaching others to follow work instructions, achieve standards and goals. Provide corrective feedback and work with supervisor or manager to provide corrective action to team members.

Lead by example. Knowledgeable of all activities and tasked performed by Shipping and Receiving functions. This includes; receiving, finished goods being put away, warehouse to warehouse movement, order picking, crating, truck loading, cycle counting, cross training, International shipments, updating and maintaining the MDI Board, pigeon hole counts, aged material FIFO process, and all required SAP tasks and issues. Interface effectively regarding problems and issues related to: equipment, computer problems, SAP, shipping and receiving dock concerns, Maintenance, Production, Customer Service, Sales, Marketing, Faribault facility, etc.

Continuous Improvement:

Learn, understand, and follow documented work procedures (SOPs).

Write SOPs to eliminate variation and promote sharing of knowledge.

Ensure all employees are adhering to (SOP’s)

Cross train in related functions and assist others in obtaining cross-functional capabilities.

Coach and train new team members and temporary employees in small groups and one-on-one.

Detect product or process abnormalities and suspected causes, troubleshoot processes and help correct issues.

Initiate and support Lean Sigma projects and continuous improvements. Generate and document solutions and continuous improvement ideas in established manner. Assist in implementation of productivity improvements.

Update the S+R MDI Board on a daily basis and ensure that all reports are accurate and timely. Work with the S+R Supervisor to communicate with the team each day.

Education and Experience: (minimum requirements)

Requires HS diploma or equivalent. 2-4-year college degree preferred.

5 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

+1 years’ experience in supervisory role or related field experience in leadership role

Previous Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma Experience preferred. Individuals in this position will be required to obtain and utilize skills from Tru Vue/Apogee Lean Sigma Training.

Computer skills in Windows, e-mail, Word, and Excel to communicate daily and complete documentation of daily operations, projects and procedures.

Ability and willingness to learn, understand, and follow documented work procedures.

Ability and willingness to generate and support implementation of continuous improvement ideas.

This job is primarily performed in an office environment. The noise level in the office is generally moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently interacts with individuals on the plant floor, near moving mechanical parts.
