Job purpose

The Shipping Supervisor works with the VP of Supply Chain to oversee warehouse activities including picking orders, shipping products, receiving shipments, analyzing and tracking inventory and supervising the team members in the department. This role requires excellent leadership and team-building skills, computer and technical acumen, and ability to develop and meet performance metrics through constant improvement of processes. Communication is key to success in this role.

Duties and responsibilities


  • Works with Controller to verify inventory counts and submits reports as requested.
  • Assures orders are picked accurately and efficiently.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper procedures are followed in regard to proper identification, tagging, and placement of product.
  • Act as supervisor during Physical Inventory Count procedures.
  • Monitors outbound loading efforts to ensure timelines are met.
  • Uses logistical planning to coordinate loading dock operations and warehouse space management.
  • Records and tracks orders being delivered by company truck.
  • Assures communication between company and customers in regard to delivery and pick-up times.
  • Communicates any discrepancies with management immediately and may be involved in notifying customer or discussing resolution with customer.
  • Assigns duties and sets expectations for employees.
  • Handles performance management of shipping crew including reviews and disciplinary actions.
  • Creates weekly schedule for shipping department.
  • Assures safety protocols are maintained and documents all training including JTAs forms.
  • Resolves and determines root cause of service failures.
  • Performs weekly test counts of inventory locations with team and review
  • Facilities training of new hires.
  • Works with maintenance team to keep equipment and facility working properly and completing PM (preventive maintenance) on schedule.
  • Attend management meetings to report activities and statistics for the week.
  • Works with QA (Quality Assurance) department to maintain inventory with proper tags (on hold, released, etc.)
  • Works with Fabrication department to store meat as fresh or frozen per SOPs and management decisions, and change labeling of product if necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate or Bachelor degree in business preferred
  • Supervisory and team building experience required
  • 3+ years warehouse shipping and receiving experience required
  • Logistics experience required
  • Inventory software skills required.
  • Forklift and loading dock experience required
  • Bilingual (Spanish) Preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft software such as Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Above average computer skills


Working conditions


Most of working conditions are in a cold environment. The shipping office is located in the warehouse which is kept very cold for the storage of meat. Frequent interaction with plant personnel will require transition between warm and cold environments. PPE will be necessary such as hard hat, hair and beard nets, steel toed rubber boots, cold-weather jackets/suit and gloves. Position is in a slaughter facility and person will observe and interact in an environment where cattle are slaughtered and personnel from the slaughter facility are working.

Physical requirements


The position will require some lifting or shuffling of boxes weighing on average 30-60 pounds from time to time and use of a forklift or hand truck. Ability to withstand cold temperatures and still focus and work.


Direct reports


The position oversees the shipping staff of 6 individuals.
