Senior Manager - Plant Operations - Lanham Campus - Full Time Job at Luminis Health

Position Purpose

Assists the Director of Plant Operations in the direction, organization, planning, leadership and control of

manpower and equipment to safely maintain a comfortable physical environment for patients, physicians, staff and general public in the facility. Must substitute for the Director during his/her absence and, therefore, must be able to handle all aspects of the departmental organization.

Role Specific Competencies

1. Assist in developing and implementing an extensive preventive maintenance, electrical safety work order program.

  • All programs that are developed must meet specific guidelines, codes and other requirements.
  • Monitors progress of all work implemented.
  • Maintains an organized up-to-date filing system on all P.M., electrical safety checks, and work orders.

2. Assists the Director in the formulation of the annual budget.

  • Evaluates equipment systems current status.
  • Compares projected to actual expenditures.
  • Sets realistic budgetary goals.
  • Maintains accurate records of expenditures for formulation of budgets.
  • Stimulates cost conscientiousness throughout the Plant Operations.

3. Assures that Plant Operations Department provides a continuous high quality of service by managing, supervising, developing Plant Operations staff.

  • Trains, orients and evaluates employees on any new procedures.
  • Focuses on continuing education that expands and improves the technical level of expertise within the department.
  • Monitors work habits of Plant Operations staff to assure all work is performed efficiently.
  • Performs Quality Assessment inspections on all work performed.
  • Coordinates completion of employee evaluations within established time frames.
  • Provides accurate, pro-active counseling to assist employees in correcting deficiencies.
  • Interviews and selects staff for employment who are totally prepared to meet the department's needs and goals.

4. Maintains constant upward, lateral and downward communication with Executive Staff, Department Directors and subordinates.

  • Communicates effectively with all persons concerned written and orally.
  • Represents Hospital in a positive manner when dealing with outside vendors and/or contractors.
  • Meets deadlines for requested reports or information.

5. Purchases related equipment for Plant Operations and other departments that house systems which Plant Operations personnel repair or maintain.

  • Maintains precise and organized purchasing records with correct coding.
  • Requisitions exact or suitable replacement parts.
  • Employs cost-effective measures on all purchasing needs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Able to understand and efficiently operate according to financial budgets.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and technical training in Plant Operations.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in supervision of Plant Operations field required.
  • Must be able to comprehend complex architectural and mechanical blueprints and then give instructions for accomplishment of work to be accomplished.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Second (2nd) class stationary engineers license under the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers, Inc.(NIULPE) or
  • Maryland Board of Stationary Engineers.
  • Specialized training in physical plant operation, specifically boilers, chillers and other HVAC components.
  • Specialized training in physical plant operation, specifically plumbing, electrical, boilers, chillers and other HVAC components.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.Must be able to hear normal sounds with significant background noise.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in cold or hot temperatures and various weather conditions.
  • Must be willing to travel to off-site locations.
  • Remembers schedules, tasks to be completed and where activities left off, etc.
