Summary

Clallam County is seeking candidates for a Maintenance worker for the Roads Department, District I (Sequim) . The position involves a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction, maintenance, repair of County roads and facilities; to operate a variety of maintenance vehicles, equipment and tools; to haul materials to and from job sites; and to perform related duties as assigned.

This position is subject to overtime, call-out, call-back, on-call status as deemed appropriate by the Department Head or Designee.


Maintenance Worker I:
This is the first level within the Maintenance Worker series and is distinguished from Maintenance Worker II by the performance of more routine tasks and duties assigned to the positions. This class is used as a training series and incumbents are expected to learn the full scope of the job and assume duties of increasing difficulty over time. Assignments involve numerous trades and skills. Assignments are varied and are received in the form of oral or written work orders. Work is performed independently or in teams, and incumbents are responsible for determining appropriate work methods, tools and materials for most assignments. Supervision is received from the Maintenance Supervisor. ($21.42 to $26.32 per hour)


Maintenance Worker II:
This is the journey level class within the Maintenance Worker series. Employees at this level receive instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and work is normally reviewed only on completion. Duties often involve the operation of mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment, such as dump trucks. Positions in this class are normally filled from the Maintenance Worker I level; however, when filled from the outside, the employee shall be required to perform the full range of duties for the class and meet the qualifications of the class. Advancement to the III level is based on time in the position, demonstrated proficient use of selected maintenance equipment, and is at the discretion of higher level management. ($23.14 to $28.42 per hour)


Maintenance Worker III:
This is the advanced journey level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees in this classification are expected to be capable of operating most of the departmental equipment and may have particular expertise on specific type(s) of equipment. Employees are expected to apply considerable practical knowledge of the skill field to resolve unusual and irregular problems which may occur, and to contribute suggestions for improvements in operations and procedures. ($25.00 to $30.68 per hour)


Education/Training

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); prior experience and/or training preferred

Maintenance Worker I

Experience and Endorsements

Prior experience as a Maintenance Worker in a similar position is desirable. Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License and ability to obtain a Class A license with tanker endorsement within 6 months from date of hire is required.

Satisfactory performance for Maintenance Worker I shall include proficiency in the operation of 50% or more of the following listed equipment:

  • Kick off Broom
  • 5 Yard Dump Truck
  • Patch Truck
  • Mower (Shoulder)
  • Chipper
  • Peanut Roller
  • Boom Truck

Maintenance Worker II

Experience and Endorsements

Eligibility for a Maintenance Worker III classification shall be based upon satisfactory completion of 36 months of service as a Maintenance Worker II, possession of a tanker license endorsement, and demonstrated proficiency in the operation of 50% or more of the following listed equipment:

  • 10 Yard Dump Truck
  • Sander (5 Yard)
  • Roller (Big)
  • Mower (reach)
  • Loader
  • Pick-up Broom
  • Spreader Box (5 yard)
  • Jet Truck
  • 10 Yard Water Tanker
  • Plowing (5 Yard)

Maintenance Worker III

Experience and Endorsements

Eligibility for a Maintenance Worker II classification shall be based upon satisfactory completion of 36 months of service as a Maintenance Worker II, possession of an "A" license with a tanker endorsement, and demonstrated proficiency in the operation of 50% or more of the following listed equipment:

  • Striper
  • Distributor
  • 10 Yard & Tilt Deck
  • 5th Wheel & Trailer
  • 10 Yard & Pup
  • Grader
  • Rubber Tire Excavators
  • Backhoe
  • Chip Spreader
  • Plowing (10 Yard)
  • Sanding (10 Yard)
  • Athey Belt Loader
  • Dozer
  • Crack Sealer

Special Requirements

Possession of, or ability to obtain a Flagging and Traffic Control Card; ability to successfully pass all testing and examinations which measure ability to perform essential job functions.
