Position Overview
Under the oversight of the Vice President of Student Success and Managing Director of Early Childhood Education, the Family Community Engagement Coordinator (FCEC) will assume responsibility for the Family and Community Engagement components of PLN’s Head Start/Early Head Start Program. The FCEC will establish internal/external relationships with community-based organizations that support the work of Head Start/Early Head Start, coordinate and promote family services; oversee the work of the Parent Policy Committee; provide leadership and mentoring/supervision for Family support specialists in their work with families; and complete all Tier 1/Tier2 monitoring. The FCEC will continuously engage with PLNs office of Student & Community Services-Family Services to ensure families have access to various resources. The Family Community Engagement Coordinator will work in partnership with the ERSEA Coordinator and participate as member of the ECE Coordinator and Leadership Teams.

Duties*
Guiding Philosophy
- Carries out the Mission, Vision, and Values established by the President/CEO and Board of Directors of Para Los Niños.
- Carries out Head Start Performance Standards, requirements of the Head Start Act, and the requirements of the LACOE contract.
- Adheres to professional conduct at all times (e.g., proper tone and language use in the classrooms/site, respectful, proper for children, parents, and peers at all times.
- Engages/Attends/participates in: 1) Professional Development Activities with the EE Leadership team and at EE sites in support of Family Services Specialists, 2) Supervision, and 3) Individualized Professional Development Goals/Activities, 4) Building intra-agency relationships to ensure families have resources available for their needs-e.g. Student & Community Services/Family Services.

Essential Functions: Community Connections*
- Conducts annual federally mandated program assessments and community assessments;
- Establishes and supervises community partnership programs and actively coordinates outreach activities with Family Services Specialists;
- Serves as a liaison between other public and private agencies;
- Participates in community boards, councils, and advisory groups in representing the agency as well as other outreach programs, activities and events.
- Develops Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with community agencies;
- Coordinates and supports activities related to non-federal in-kind contributions.

Essential Functions: Governance*
- Oversees Tier 1 and II monitoring for Family and Community engagement activities.
- Maintains oversight of the Parent Policy Committee its functions, responsibilities, and Bylaws
- Monitors center-based meetings and elections.

Essential Functions: Data Analysis and Monitoring*
- Collects, analyzes, interprets and monitors data related to the annual refunding application;
- Collects, analyzes, interprets and monitors data related to the PIR

Essential Functions: Parent Leadership*
- Coordinates in partnership with FSSs -calendar of parent events, including the monthly parent calendar
- Supports and check-ins with Area Supervisors to support with communication to families.
- Engages with FSSs by supporting with planning, organizing, facilitating parent workshops and trains parent volunteers at EE sites.
- Oversees the annual update of the parent handbook in collaboration with Area Supervisors, FSSs, EE coordinators and Managing Director.

- Trains, and supports the work of Family Service Specialists related to family and community engagement activities.
- Provides Reflective Supervision for Family Service Specialists
- Acts as major contributor on interdisciplinary and advisory teams involving program management, teaching staff, agency personnel, and families.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Three years of experience in child development, community involvement, and related family services.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience: 1) working with a recognized social services agency; 2) completing performance reports; 3) assisting the parents of young children in advocating and decision-making for their families.

Skills and Abilities*
- Expertise in management and oversight of family services.
- Strong communication skills and knowledge of family engagement strategies, case management principles and community resources.

Education and Certification Requirements*
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Social Work, Child Development, Human Development, Family Services, Sociology, or a related field is desirable. Master’s Degree preferred
- Bilingual preferable

License/Special Requirements*
- TB test clearance to be renewed every two years.
- Verification of Immunizations required by the California Department of Health (Pertussis, Measles and Influenza)
- DOJ clearance and all other required background checks
- Understanding of and ability to use technology such as Learning Genie and other agency required programs.
