What you will do:
The Rotating Equipment Engineer performs a variety of mechanical process and facilities engineering work tasks to maintain and continuously improve the process compressor, refrigeration, and other rotating equipment systems at the Charleston site. This position provides engineering and technical services to Operations and additional service units to assure safe operations and to maximize the availability and efficiency of these units.
Technical Duties:
- Optimize system startup, shutdown, and continuous running practices to improve equipment stability and extend lifetime between rebuilds. Ensure best practices are carried across site units where applicable.
- Define wear- and hour-based rebuild scopes, standardize work plans and define acceptable thresholds of wear components.
- Perform engineering design/exercise engineering judgment to improve equipment as necessary in accordance with management of change and other PSM-compliant programs.
- Support site maintenance teams in the planning and execution of equipment maintenance.
- Interface between the Wacker BD-P business unit sites regarding all rotating equipment systems.
- Become an expert capable of exercising process engineering judgement with respect to the process area of responsibility and assigned subject matters.
- Develop and support the development of specifications and standards.
- Budget/project management responsibilities surrounding major equipment within area of responsibility. This includes creation/management of projects in SAP, oversight of technical costs for normal wear-and-tear, etc.
- Conduct and coordinate debottlenecking and troubleshooting activities.
- Drive and support continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, and cost.
- Cooperate with groups and individuals within the Engineering and Maintenance teams, within Operations, and other service units with a focus on achieving optimal results and solutions from a corporate enterprise perspective.
Administrative Duties:
- Keep documentation, equipment records, and BOMs up to date.
- Supervise 3rd party providers for engineering and maintenance services as needed.
- Represent WACKER’s interests towards authorities, suppliers, and contractors.
- Perform all tasks and assignments in accordance with WACKER policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
What we need from you:
- A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial, or chemical engineering is required.
- 4-8+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
- Thorough technical knowledge in the field of mechanical process and facilities engineering including a familiarity of relevant regulations, standards, and codes.
- Familiar working with process flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams, pipeline isometrics, and equipment drawings.
- Understanding of function and design of processing equipment and piping systems including gas compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, etc.
- Objective judgement and fact-based decision-making approach.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams.
- Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements.
- Strong multitasking competency.
- Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure.
- Team player attitude.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to learn and utilize computer software programs.
- Preferred, but not required: Six Sigma and Lean, SAP EAM, Comos.
- Must be physically fit to wear an air purifying respirator if necessary.
- Due to schedule and milestone requirements, a nonstandard work schedule such as nights, holidays, and/or weekends may be required.
