JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision of the Public Works department Superintendents and Senior Maintenance Technicians, the Seasonal Maintenance Technician will perform general maintenance, construction, and repair duties and assistance to various Public Works departments, including but not limited to, Parks, Streets, Water, Sewer, Drainage, and Building Maintenance.

SUPERVISION

RECEIVES direct supervision from Department Superintendents and Senior Maintenance Technicians.

EXERCISES no supervision.

GENERAL TASKS

• Assist in the general maintenance, construction, and repairs of Public Works assets such as Streets, Buildings, Drainage infrastructure, Sidewalks, Parks, and other right-of-way infrastructure, signals, and markings.
• Operate City vehicles and light equipment, such as mowers, weed eaters, and chainsaws.
• Perform landscape and right-of-way maintenance; including mowing grass, trimming trees, weed eating, and general parks maintenance.
• Perform basic stormwater maintenance such as grading of ditches, cleaning culverts and catch basins.
• Perform basic maintenance relating to curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.
• Perform basic maintenance of streets relating to repairs of potholes and pavement repairs.
• Perform basic building maintenance which may involve light bulb changes, air filter change outs, painting, furniture moving, supply and material errands for City buildings, etc.
• Assist Street, and Water/Sewer crews in basic maintenance needs.
• Provide quality customer service to City staff, the general public, and all other work contacts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

A High School diploma or equivalent is required. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Knowledge of:

• Routine landscaping and mowing.
• Right-of-Way maintenance
• Basic construction and/or street maintenance and repair procedures.

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to tolerate outside working conditions including exposure to adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to operate small and light equipment.
• Read safety and hazard warnings on equipment and materials.
• Solve basic construction and repair problems.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Follow occupational safety and health procedures.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Must have personal transportation to and from work.
• Be punctual and regular in attendance.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

• Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class C driver’s license, with a good driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND CONDITIONS

• Continual exposure to weather extremes, noise and vibration from equipment, moving traffic near work sites.
• Subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, entering closed spaces, climbing ladders, lifting, and use of foot controls.

Work hours available are between 20-40 hours per week, within a Monday to Friday workweek; 7:30 am - 4:30 pm.
