Scale House Attendant - McBain, MI Job at National Salvage & Service Corporation
National Energy is looking for a strong, motivated Scale House Operator to join our team in McBain, MI. The Scale House Operator will report directly to the Fuel Yard Manager. The Scale House Operator is part of the Woodyard Team and is responsible for the safe operation of truck dump and fuel stacking system.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the proper day-to-day scale house and fuel receiving operations and maintain system cleanliness and preservations.
- Responsible for operating the weigh scale and the computer system with basic knowledge in Excel.
- Ensure all inbound trucks scale in properly: This includes driving speeds, lift axel positions, and signing in and out on the scale computer system. Directing traffic of all deliveries to ensure the system is operated in a safe and proficient manner and verify product logged is the same as product delivered.
- Ensure all outgoing shipments are handled properly. Requesting delivery ticket, completing all required paperwork, and verifying all trucks are loaded safely and properly.
- Prepare all required paperwork for loads being shipped to landfill.
- Maintain the scale house cleanliness: This includes sweeping the floors daily, emptying the trash daily, keeping all counters and horizontal surfaces clean and free of dust, keeping the approach to the scale house swept clean and free of excess snow or ice build-up.
- Maintain the plant scale: This includes keeping the scale swept off daily, ensuring the scale weather seals are in place, keeping the scale free of snow and ice build-up, reporting any problems that arise with the unit to your immediate supervisor.
- Perform routine inspections of fuel receiving systems: this system includes the truck dump decks, hoppers, hydraulic systems and fuel conveyors. This also requires at least twice a day cleaning up any spilled fuel from any of these systems and/or from any incoming fuel suppliers.
- Troubleshoot fuel system trips: This includes any trips on the truck dumping devices, fuel conveyors, magnet systems, metal detectors, disc screen, wood hog and reporting any such problems to your immediate supervisor.
- Training on the different plant systems: This includes training on scale systems, fuel receiving and handling systems, plant safety and qualification procedures, heavy equipment qualifications and operations. It also includes working with the maintenance and operations departments as designated per your supervisor.
- Assist with preparation of wood fuel management reports.
- Perform wood fuel inspections for regulatory compliance, contract compliance & operational reporting.
- Adhere to all safety regulations.
- Assist other personnel as needed and maintain a team environment with all other plant departments. Operate fuel and/or ash handling equipment which may include wheel loaders, skid steers, trucks, grapples, booms, grinders and various machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
- Obtain fuel samples as required.
Additional Responsibilities as part of the Woodyard Team:
There will be times when the Scale House Operator will need to assist in other areas of the woodyard. Scale House Operators will have a high mechanical aptitude.
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on mobile/fuel equipment as required.
- Maintain accurate operational logs on mobile equipment, as required.
- Must perform consistent and accurate work.
- Clean mobile and fuel yard equipment as required.
- Reclaim fuel as necessary to support overall plant operation.
- Assist with woodyard operations, plant operations, and maintenance, as required.
- Participate in various company provided proficiency training programs.
- Interface with Operations and Maintenance teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and heavy equipment.
- Must possess a valid state of Michigan driver’s license.
- Must be willing to be trained on all heavy equipment in the fuel yard.
- Ability to work overtime, as well as any shift schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to read and interpret documentation such as technical manuals, operating and maintenance manuals, and operations procedures.
- Ability to write routine correspondence and reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, contractors, and suppliers.
- Knowledgeable & comfortable with working on a computer.
- Able to lift 50 pounds. Able to bend, pull and push as needed. Able to walk up inclines and uneven ground surfaces. Able to speak clear English and can read and write legibly.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in biomass fuel yard operations.
- Experience with truck unloading operations.
- Experience with grinding operations.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High mechanical aptitude.
- Highly motivated.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to pass client required drug testing and background checks.
- Must be willing to work weekends and off hours on occasion to support the power plant.
