Position Summary
We are hiring an experienced safety and human performance professional to join our site team at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant. The Safety Representative/Consultant is responsible for managing the Plant Safety and Human Performance Program. The selected individual will serve as a resource for management, leadership and supervision and will be responsible for the direction, planning, development, and coordination of the plants' safety and human performance programs. The Safety Representative/Consultant will work to develop and sustain a zero-injury culture with employees and contractors to define expectations, drive performance improvement strategies and establish processes for compliance with applicable regulations and company policies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical / analytical guidance regarding OSHA regulations, as well as the consensus standards (i.e., NFPA, ASTM, ANSI, DOT, etc.)
  • Maintain OSHA 300 and 300A logs and summary to OSHA on an annual basis
  • Understanding and application of safety rules, along with consulting and advising directors, managers, supervisors, employees and other personnel with respect to the company's Safety Human Performance program
  • Educating employees on safe and error free work practices, investigating accidents, and taking steps to prevent reoccurrences
  • Overseeing fall protection, scaffold erection/dismantling, permit required work and asbestos (building inspector) needs
  • Preparing and filing safety records/reports, as well as maintaining monthly accident frequency/severity ratings and reviewing accident reports
  • Maintain and inspect the AEDs and First Aid Team Response Cabinets and supplies
  • Supporting multiple plant safety and human performance committees and initiatives
  • Provide technical and analytical guidance to conduct industrial hygiene assessments and devise monitoring plans
  • Working knowledge of Devon Way to trend safety and human performance
  • Performing safety audits and conducting hazard assessments while prescribing the proper means of approved personal protective equipment
  • Travel as necessary between Energy Harbor generation plant locations to meetings and to provide support during online and outage operations
  • Proficient in excel, word and power point presentations
  • Must possess or obtain with in one year certification as a qualified Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor and Asbestos Inspector and Management Planner

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and/or Industrial Hygiene related sciences, or degree in a relevant field with equivalent experience in safety, or equivalent demonstrated field experience preferred; in lieu of a degree, a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of a 5 years related (Safety or Industrial Hygiene) professional level experience is required.
  • At least 3 years of Safety or Industrial Hygiene experience in the utility industry (with degree)
  • Ability to obtain an advanced safety certificate from the National Safety Council (or equivalent) as required
  • Knowledge of power or steam plant operations preferred
  • Experience in error prevention techniques and application of human performance tools
  • Experience in event analysis and cause investigation techniques
  • Experience preparing and delivering presentations and demonstrations to diverse audiences
  • Experience investigating and developing new safety methods and techniques, as well as investigating equipment safety compliance
  • Demonstrated experience with the rules and regulations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Department of Labor and the Workers' Compensation laws of Ohio
  • Possess a cooperative temperament and have demonstrated the ability to create and maintain a positive working relationship with other departments
  • Exceptional ability to create and promote cooperation and teamwork
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to champion positive change
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a personally owned or leased vehicle to commute to various facilities throughout the assigned territory
Preferred qualifications include all of the above plus:
  • 5 – 10 years related professional experience in Occupational Safety and/or Industrial Hygiene
  • Relevant Human Performance and/or Industrial Safety certifications
  • Ability to independently create and deliver programmatic training and demonstrations to diverse audiences preferred
