The Opportunity: RN Nurse Navigator, Breast Imaging – Radiology at Salem, NH
Why This Role Is Important
Reporting to the Radiology Manager – Salem, the Registered Nurse Navigator is responsible for assuring competent, compassionate nursing care for patients and families primarily in the Radiology department, primarily throughout Mammography. The RN Nurse Navigator will assure proper preparation of patients, facilitate the expeditious scheduling of patients, perform pre-procedure assessments and patient instructions, and provide post-procedure instructions and follow up of patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide competent, compassionate nursing care for Breast Imaging patients
- Initiate telephone contact, assessment, education and instruction to patients when appropriate
- Respond to patient phone inquiries in a timely manner
- Consult with referring physician regarding appropriate pre-procedure lab work or medications as needed
- Coordinate and expedite patient care, including scheduling procedures or follow up appointments
- Conduct post procedure follow up with patient
- Communicate results and recommendations from biopsy results to the patient and care team as per the Radiologist recommendation
- Communicate plan of care to other team members
- Serve as a resource to patients, their families, and staff
- Provide support during Breast Imaging interventional procedures, monitoring patient and performing vitals if needed
- Assist with nursing duties throughout other Radiology modalities as requested by Radiology leadership
- Administrative duties
- Document pathology results
- Order exams as needed
- Maintain schedule for interventional patient procedures
- Document verbal and written correspondence with patient in Epic
- Initiate pathology/imaging concordance process by providing addendums to the Radiologist to report in Epic
- Act as a liaison between the Mammography Department and other departments including but not limited to Breast Surgery, Breast Oncology, and Primary Care
- Perform each essential duty satisfactorily and be able to demonstrate any knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the needs of the patients serviced in the Mammography Department
Required Experience
- Valid/Current license to practice as an RN and BLS
- Epic Radiant experience preferred but not required
- Experience working in women’s health preferred required
- Excellent communication and listening skills
