Restoration Crew Laborer Job at Pueblo of Santa Ana
Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Restoration Crew Supervisor and the Restoration Program Manager, performs various duties to restore native vegetation and manage the riparian and upland habitats on the Pueblo of Santa Ana. Work involves removing non-native vegetation, planting and maintaining native vegetation, river maintenance and ecological monitoring. Collects data and assists with controlled burns.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plants, seeds and maintains native plants, clears non-native and invasive native vegetation from the Bosque and applies pesticides and herbicides as needed.
- Assists with data collection and monitoring in the field including ground water levels, vegetation and wildlife.
- Seeding, planting, and maintaining native vegetation through herbicide application, chain saw use, and mowing or heavy equipment use.
- Accompanies outside contractors and federal agency representatives on Tribal lands. * Assists with controlled burns to improve the habitat for many wildlife species and manage competing vegetation.
- Operates tractors, mowers, water trucks, excavators, Bobcats, and other heavy equipment as needed.
- Observes safety rules to ensure and maintain a safe work environment. This is a top priority. * Checks to ensure tools are in proper working order; reports defects and broken parts found on equipment.
- Assists with community outreach activities including Environmental Fair and community wood distribution. May be required to work weekends (once or twice a year).
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED and one year field or outdoor labor experience. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation including a motor vehicle check. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license and be insurable under the Pueblo’s insurance.
