Location: Spruce Pine, NC

We are looking for a dynamic Mineral Processing Research Scientist to be locatedin Spruce Pine, NC who will contribute to the research and development of new or improved mineral processes, with a focus on manufacturing of high purity quartz. The objective of a Research Scientist job is to research and design bench-scale, pilot and industrial scale trials to optimize and maximize efficiency of new and existing industrial mineral processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Research process design for existing and new mineral processes taking into account all fields of extractive metallurgy: comminution, sizing, concentration, froth flotation, magnetic and electrostatic separation, and dewatering systems.
  • Conduct hands-on experimental research to develop new and or improved processes.
  • Make decisions for process improvements based on mineral recoveries and mineral technologies.
  • Evaluate the applicability of new technologies for mineral processes.
  • Organize and evaluate external and internal lab, pilot, and industrial tests.
  • Produce technical reports that analyze quantitative experimental results, simulations and calculated results of new and existing processes.
  • Make mass balances of existing and new processes, as well as perform process audits.
  • Participate in the feasibility evaluation of technical projects.
  • Design the concept flow sheet for new and optimized processes. This includes testing and selection of critical equipment for the process.
  • Support in drawings, layout, P&ID composition, process controls, etc.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Material Sciences with PhD in same or areas with a study background in Mineral Processes.
  • Ability to motivate people without having the authority over them (ability to lead) and to think out of the box.
  • Demonstrate both technical and management skills.
  • Have excellent written and verbal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

Pay: $83,000.00 - $103,000.00 per year
