Ideal Candidate:

  • Exhibit a bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Training and/or experience with computer aided design (CAD) and spreadsheet software
  • Willingness to be a hands-on, shop oriented engineer
  • Prefer experience and/or classes in statistics
  • Prefer experience and/or classes in experiment design (DOE)
  • Willing and able to travel on a moderate basis to discuss technical issues with customers.


As a Research Engineer, you will develop new products and manufacturing processes while improving existing products and processes. Research Engineers are responsible for diagnosing product use issues and providing technical support and product training to other divisions within AMERICAN and to customers.


Job Duties:

  • Within his or her area of technical training and experience, designs, develops and improves new and existing products (including outsourced products), processes and equipment.
  • Provides technical support for Sales and Manufacturing Divisions, including complaint investigations and job site visits.
  • Provides technical support for manufacturing.
  • Reads appropriate literature and attends related seminars, conferences and the like to improve technical and managerial skills.
  • Within his or her area of technical training and experience, designs and/or determines product physical properties so that the product meets applicable specifications.
  • Provides training to new Sales Division employees.
  • Within his or her area of technical training and experience, performs routine maintenance, installs software and writes in-house programs for Research department computers and data acquisition equipment.
  • Coordinates various required third-party certifications.
  • Writes and/or critiques reports. Delivers technical presentations in front of groups of various sizes.
  • Supervises product testing in Research laboratory and other locations as required.
  • Makes, modifies, and records research data and drawings as required. Actively uses the AMERICAN project management system to plan projects, track project progress and record project status updates.
