About the Role
Calder Woods is seeking a passionate Registered Nurse in our Assisted Living department. The Registered Nurse will be providing treatment to residents suffering from various medical conditions. The RN will be responsible for administering medication, monitoring residents recovery and progress and educating the residents and their families on continuous care.
What You’ll Do
As a member of our team you will have an impact on our clients through accomplishment of the following responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations in all areas of nursing care.
- Plan, organize, and direct nursing personnel in fulfilling their responsibilities for nursing service.
- Maintain awareness of internal operating management policies.
- Assist in maintaining current health care plans according to a schedule rotation and documenting acute episodes or significant changes in residential status
- Analyze and evaluate nursing and related services to improve the quality of elder care and maximize nursing time and abilities.
- Make daily rounds of all residents utilizing health care plans for the purposes of visibility, assessment, completion, and evaluation of care; make rounds with physicians and records visits on charts
- Supervise aides in the performance of their duties by monitoring their work; assign aides to residents – specifying break times and special duties to be completed.
- Maintain a safe work environment for all residents and co-workers
- Meet with the director as needed and participates in staff meetings to keep staff performing at optimum level.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with state/federal law as well as corporate policy.
- Supervise (or personally handles) the preparation and administration of prescribed medications.
- Monitor nursing equipment, repairs, and replacement.
- Direct charting on shift and make detailed evaluation of all resident charting in accordance with facility policy, state guidelines, and resident status
- Insure that the individual health care plan is followed; administer or supervise treatments prescribed by physician.
- Administer all parenteral, intramuscular, and sub-cutaneous injections; perform all in-house testing procedures; takes and records vital signs.
- Supervise the preparation of, or accurately prepare and complete incident reports.
- Receive or place calls to physicians and follow through with physician’s orders.
- Order all new medications and refills; give initial dose of all new medication and chart same.
- Order and maintain nursing supplies; monitor condition of medication room, cart and refrigerator.
- Recognize and document significant changes in the condition of the resident and take necessary action.
- Communicate with residents’ families and respond in an appropriate, professional manner.
- Supervise serving of prescribed diets and fluid intake; report persistent unresolved problems to the physician and/or Director of Nursing or appropriate discipline.
- Complete admission assessments and appropriate discharge documentation.
- Detect and correct situations that have a probability of causing accidents or injuries to residents or others.
- Intervene in resident disputes or disruptive behavior, if necessary, to maintain proper unit harmony and resident safety.
- Participate in meetings and in-service training as required.
- Maintain compliance with all Buckner policies, procedures and requirements. Maintain compliance with all federal and state laws. Maintain compliance with all agency regulatory guidelines and requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring to the Team
To be successful in this role and a great addition to our team we need you to come with the following:
- Requires basic understanding of a specialized area of knowledge normally acquired by attaining a High School diploma (or G.E.D.), plus two to three years of college or vocational school and appropriate license/certification. Previous experience in long term care preferred.
- Requires ability to understand and carry out moderately complex written and oral instructions.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Must have and maintain a current licensure by the Texas State Board of Nursing as a licensed registered nurse; must complete and/or meet training, certification, required by Buckner and State.
- Requires ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently
- Requires ability to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously to move objects and/or people.
- Requires ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Requires ability to keep detailed records and prepare routine reports.
- Proficient working knowledge and ability to accurately and timely operate and perform computer related tasks with specific equipment and software applications required.
- Work deals mostly with areas such as preparing and reading data and figures, client records, medical orders, visual inspection involving small details, using measurements devices, dispensing medicines. Visual work is primarily close to observer. Depth perception and field of vision (peripheral) are not as critical as the ability to distinguish small details and markings very near to the observer. Color perception for some tasks (e.g., dispensing meds, assessment of elder condition) is important.
- Position requires bending, stooping, twisting, turning, reaching, lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, climbing, kneeling, walking, and standing over 75% of shift.
- Requires ability to recognize differences in sound, such as voices/noises that are loud and playful instead of angry and combative.
- Requires ability to exercise independent judgment under broad nursing case guidelines. Exercises initiative, patience, tact, and confidentiality; demonstrates administrative and leadership ability; ability to analyze and evaluate objectively. Works under little direct supervision.
- Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to meet emotional and physical demands of patients (and to help insure their dignity) and staff on the unit.
- Requires ability to maintain composure, positive attitude and awareness of priorities in an environment of stress and frequent interruptions.
- Requires ability to speak clearly and make self understood in face-to-face interactions; to articulate with extreme accuracy and precision to give directions, speak on the phone, intercom, etc.
- Requires ability to comply with Patient rights, all regulatory requirements, and all company policies and procedures as stated now and in the future.
- Requires knowledge of general nursing theory and practice; including basic knowledge related to nursing, such as drugs, biological, physical, social, and medical sciences, and their application. Working knowledge of infection control, universal precautions and OSHA standards.
- Requires knowledge of principles and methods involved in in-service instruction of nursing and auxiliary personnel, in demonstrating techniques and methods of patient-care services, and in instruction of patients’ needs.

- Requires familiarity with medical diagnoses, procedures, and accepted medical treatment patterns. Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary to administer medication and treatment as prescribed by physician. Knowledge of medications and possible side effects.

- Requires sufficient good health to properly discharge duties. Employees shall not be permitted to work who have infectious disease or skin lesion, for the duration of the communicability.
